It’s Friday, You Have A Cool Woody Boat, What More Do You Need?
It’s the big Friday before the last weekend of summer. WHAT THE HELL? How did summer go by so fast. Poof! It’s gone! UGH… Crap.. God $&%^&#(#()@)@*$#&$&$ it! Now, here in VA this marks the best boating by the way. The humidity is down and weather is perfect between now and October. So it’s not a boating thing. It’s a state of mind thing. This weekend is the beginning of the end. Time to start thinking about up coming winter projects. To plan out crap that you have been putting off all SUMMER! Which is about to end now thankyou very much.. So I say. Get out the gas card. Go to your local marina, fill up , and floor it! Forget the sun screen. Toast your epidermis like a Thanksgiving Turkey.. UGH, Thanksgiving is only 3 months away.. CRAP! Wait.. That means only 4 months til Lake Dora.. Yea! There is hope.. Lake Dora.. It’s like it’s just tomorrow! Wooohoooo..
Ya and here in Chicagoland we are expecting the remains of the hurricane. RAIN all weekend. Looks like sitting on the porch and drinking beer.
But the best boating is now till the leaves change. All the weekend warriors are gone.
Good weather predicted in Michigan until at least Monday. Water Lily will be wet and happy. May all the WoodyBoaters have a great weekend!
I forgot to mention, I love that show of Bob Bryson’s racing runabout on the lift in today’s header.
We had no idea whos boat that was. We were just driving along on Harsons Island, and BM there it was.. Thats the charm of Michigan!
I agree. There’s simple perfection in the lines of a 19′ Racing Runabout
Yes, the best boating is now until the leaves change….
That must be why we are just ready NOW, for our, ahem, cough… FIRST full run of the year. It was planned that way… yes, I’m sure it was… Why would anyone plan otherwise? Enjoy the season, you bet!
The best two months of boating here in Minnesota/Wisconsin begin this weekend. It’s not the end. It’s the beginning.
I’m back from The River and what else I needed was gas, food, beer and a towel. What a week plus of weather.
It’s 80 degrees, sunny, and breezy in Hessel. Tonight, it’s baseball (Go Tigers!), hot dogs (beachside), apple pie (actually, Bell’s Beer), and Chris-Craft. In reverse order. We’re still in denial winter is coming this year.
First day of Spring down here. What are you waiting for?
It was near 90 today and I’m fried but there was a nice breeze on the water and we’ve been out on it all day. Tomorrow out of state relatives are going out with us and Sunday Dad is coming out. I’ve GOT to remember suntan lotion tomorrow. One of the biggest problems is the people gathered around when we dock, hard to break away to get to the ocean to cool off. Our woodies definitely stand out in a plastic crowd.
New classic boating starting procedure:
Lift – Sniff – Smear (sun scream) – Start Engine – Push Off – Pull In Fenders
Rest
Add to the starting procedures the sounds of “psst”, “gurgle, gurgle” (that’s adult beverages being opened and poured in case you couldn’t figure that out). Can hardly avoid a little refreshment on a late summer afternoon sitting under the canvas, at anchor of course, lest the DNR be all over your a$$.
That’s one of the problems, I need some canvas to hide under. Pop a cold one and it’s already evaporating out of my pores as I swallow.
rick,
where you running? we’re thinking about running st. john’s river tomorrow or monday! we put in just north of lake monroe on the volusia side (great facilites)…
I’m running Long Island Sound and Moriches Bay. Gotta love the salt. It takes an equal amount of time to clean up as the amount of time you’re out there. Sand , Varnish, Sand Varnish, Go WoodySaltBoating, clean for 3 hours, repeat.
….and OMG, Maureen O’Hara, is there anyone more beautiful than her and especially with a W/B cap on. Now if you could just find an old photo of her in a vintage boat for my future man cave “cruiser” I’d be happy, might even forget about that $300 Rybovich book for a couple of hours anyway.
Damn Matt, You had to show that great picture of “SUZY” up on plane. Just teasin me arn’t ya… Talk to you later this week.
