Meet Toad, Bob Murdocks New Taunt

A huge thanks to Bob Murdock for keeping us all entertained with his hi-jinx/hoarding. Then again is it really hoarding if its cool? Then its called “collecting” and “curating” Saving? Anyway, it’s all fun and games till you croak…… Get it, TOAD, Croak? Anyone? Try the Veal. Anyone? Ugh, Here is Bob’s note. Needless to say, if there is some collective knowledge out there of TOADS history. RIBBIT, RIBBIT!

Only thing I heard on history was that it was raced in TN; not sure of what beyond that it might have been.

There was a strong rumor from the family that Charlie Daniels bugged their father for years to buy the boat………

Well, thanks Bob, I hope there are some folks out there that may know a little more.

OMG, a monster Rat Rod woody boat thing with a Offy race engine. I don’t know how else to describe it. That thing is the true definition of “if you brung it run it”.
We have got to see a video of that thing on the water. Go Bob!

How do you guys find these things?! That is too cool! Are there any plans on how to restore/preserve it yet?

Gotta love the galvanized seat backs. Clearly more money spent on the engine than comfy seats. Fun stuff!

I can confirm it’s classified as hoarding. There’s wooden boats tucked everywhere!!

The boat needs a pair of fuzzy dice hanging somewhere and side pipes instead of the “traditional” rear exhaust it now has! Once again…too cool!

Is that a fiberglass hull? Maybe a Ford “Y-block” V8? Offy valve covers, so that triple carb intake is probably Offy as well. Please Please Please – video of this zipping across the water – Soon!

Yes, ‘glass hull from CA, wooden decks and engine from some fellow twisted kindred soul………
“Safe”? At my advanced age, if I can get the damn thing running, you can bet my right foot will be on the floor……..
Ask Patti, these “things” just find me and my network of fellow nutcases around the world all have a cell phone camera. (I only don’t aquire when logistics mean I need to fight guerillas, bribe officials or have to build another pole barn overnight to hide it)
If I live long enough where Patti doesn’t slit my throat and shove me out of a moving vehicle, she’ll have the greatest three ring, three week auction in the country.
    Ya’ll are invited!!!!

The Charlie Daniels ! So this boat is proof that the south’s gonna do it again.

Hmmm. It looks (kinda) like a Crackerbox-style race boat. Crackerbox racing is big out in California, not so much elsewhere. It’s still an active A.P.B.A. Inboard racing class, dating back to the early 50’s. 15′ boats, small block V-8 power, driver + rider. They’re a blast to watch, with plenty of V-8 rumble and competetive speeds. This one looks like a nod in that direction, if not an actual old racer. There’s plenty of Crackerbox racing on Youtube, if you’d like to get an idea.
