This weekend between Hydro watching, I was trying to get Sweet Pea ready for the summer. And as I spoke about earlier, I stripped the frames around her windows. And while at that found a rotten piece of wood in her stem. OUCH. Go to sand and the sander goes through the wood/ YIKES. But I know a guy that owns a boat shop. Reason #67 why owning a boat shop is a good thing. MeFree labor and lots of wood around.

BUT, POLLEN. GAD ZOOKS, It’s intense this year. I suppose every year around this time. So the varnish had to stop, but the work cant. Weekends are gold time right now. No if you will excuse me, I need to go blow my nose
Yep, our pollen was about a month ago. Still haven’t recovered tasting foods yet.
Hopefully get some coats of varnish on before love-bug season in a few weeks

Do me a favor and start adding Continentals to the list when talking about rare and desirable boats! Every little bit helps, lol.
The pine pollen looks like that around here, but does not arrive for many months yet.

It’s a 1956 18 footer. I bought it as a project about 10 years ago, and I plan to have it on the water this summer. I just picked up the chrome from the plater a couple of weeks ago and am just waiting on the upholstery to get back.

Though I have the joy of caring for and using Yorktown I have to admit that it is in fact Mom’s boat. My folks bought her in ’65. This pic was taken a few years ago, but Mom is going strong at 94.

Watch out, this is the year of the Brood X 17 year cicadas massing. They’ll get stuck in your varnish as they sound like a million chainsaws. If the pollen doesn’t get ya, the red eyed cicadas will.
FYI, If you want to know when they’ll apprear: The cicadas come out once soil reaches 64 degrees. They are often triggered by a warm rain.
Wait…you said stem and you’re worried about the pollen? Is this the drama hook for us to tune in later. That could be major. So I guess we’ll tune in later to find out more. So my partner and I have a ’67 CC 30′ Connie in the yard and needs forward starboard chine replacement. You wanna talk about a head scratcher. My partner is a very accomplished restorer and he’s like – scrap it or fix it because he’s 83 but this boat has < 300 hours on it and was boathouse kept and I'm not quite as accomplished as he. Decisions, decisions.
