Pumpkin’s In Jersey! Next Stop Lake Dora!

Pumpkin tucked away!

Pumpkin tucked away!

Yesterday 4 AM, the day started with a hail Mary run to Katz’s Marina on Lake Hopatcong to deliver Pumpkin to her winter beauty make over. Thus official starting the Lake Dora countdown. Thats right, since yesterday was also the first day of winter, if you are a glass half empty person, to me a glass half full person, it’s  the beginning of the end! We are now just 3 months from Lake Dora, suntan lotion, and catching up with pals. This also invites the big question? Have you made your hotel reservations? House rental? IF you want to look up the show details, you can click here on the sunnyland chapters website.

The match set arrive safely. Oklahoma, to Florida, Florida to Virginia, Then to Jersey, then back to Fla in March. WOW

Hi Martin, the header picture is Paul Harrisons trusty sea skiff at the boat house that we all use on Lake Dora. If you are out on the lake there is usualy a small gathering at the boat house. The gathering usualy grows into the evening. Its one of my favorite places on the planet!

I was referring to the black and white picture of all the boats that were damaged in a storm. I think that the new header went up as I was typing out the question. Sorry!

We got our hotel, staying right in town, by the docks. They built a second hotel next to the one at the end of the last long dock on the west end.
This will be our third visit, and now know the routine, and area, I am really excited to get down there.
We signed up for the River Cruise during the week B4. Can not wait to get all the details on that event, to start planning on details.
Let the count down begin !!!

Guy Marvin from Jacksonville Florida is the man that has organized the South bound trip for numerous years.

I have had the pleasure of going on this trip many times, but the biggest problem is that it has grown so large there are not enough hotel rooms along the route.

Sorry I do not have any more contact info for you.

Hope to meet you on the cruise.

Matt, we have that house rented again this year but I am not going to have a boat there, as our stay is only 2 weeks and that is not long enough to justify the time and espense of getting a boat there. I have rented that place for 4 years in a row, and will continue to do so for as long as I can.

In a bit of serendipity, I found out two years ago that Mr. Jean Vincent, President of the Chris Craft Antique Boat Club before Wilson Wright took it over in the mid-’80’s owned that house and the ran the club from there for several years. The boat house contained several boats, including a 1935 25′ CC triple in that era. The Skiff in the picture won’t fit through the door – a bit of a wide load, it is.

No Skiff? Where on earth are we supposed to drink then? And don’t tell me “the bar,” because it’s not floating.

My first visit to Dora, I never got on a boat, except your Skiff. I think that’s when I first met you. And Mayer. Skiff was tied to the dock. Had two beers there w Mayer. Two months of long, cold, icy, dark, dreary, depressing, endless winter misery melted away.

Well, they didn’t totally go away. The scars remained. But it sure helped.

Shan’t forget that. Just bobbing at the dock. Ahhhh.

Pumpkin is officially owned and insured by me. BUT.. Will be restored and fixed up by Katz’s Marina and Van Ness in a special way. The boat will be sold off, auctioned off, not sure yet. The money goes to a huge party in honor of Larry and what Larry stood for. FUN. No one profits from this except all of us in Woodyboaterville for being reminded that this is all about fun. Pumpkin will be at the tent and in the water at Lake Dora in March. Woody Gal is also very involved in all this.

Will it be auctioned at Tavares? I don’t do well at auctions, I always but stuff I don’t need and pay too much for it. Like WB posters – that comes to mind from the last Tavares show!

That is a late 40’s Reinell that Alan Thomle converted to an inboard “Gentleman’s Racer” about 20 years ago. I believe it started life as an outboard. We were talking about that boat a few weeks ago – that was a neat re-work that he had a lot of fun doing and enjoyed for several years before selling it.

Alan is the guy who restored “Greyhound”, restored the Elco that went to Minnesota this summer and also “Rio Rita”, owned by the gentleman who had him do the Elco.
