Scarlet, Sweet Scarlet. A Sad Farewell.

See you again one day Miss Scarlet
It’s with a heavy, heavy heart we report the passing of a true and loyal Woody Boater. Miss Scarlet who was always ready for a boat ride and road trip. Scarlet never, NEVER left Jimmy’s side. Work, play, eating out. You name it, Scarlet was there. To say she will be missed is an understatement for sure.

She loved a boat ride
The silver lining is Scarlet lived her life as well as anyone could. She lived on a farm, never on a leash, and had the free run of 50 acres of woods, cows and sure loved a roll in dead animal guts. Her boat rides are legendary and she was welcome at every restaurant and business in Reedville, hell, anyplace she showed up she brought smiles and joy.. She would just plop down and sleep. Rather chill about it all.

Lets go

Scarlet liked her pals on the water

Loved to sit on the bow..A true Golden!

Woohooo

She was always there in the workshop.

Scarlet on the official T shirt

She sure loved to take a chomp out of some spray

She is one of us!

She loved to hang with all of us

Even helped in the barn

A true Bathing Beauty

It’s a sad week here in Woodyboaterville
She got along with any person, dog or cow. She lived a very full life, was incredibly taken care of and loved deeply. I thought this wonderful poem that jimmy Stewart read on Johnny Carson. It captures the mood for sure.
We know how tough it is to loose your “boat dog”. We have been through it several times and all with Golden Retrievers. Our thoughts are with Jimmy today. RIP Scarlet!
So sorry to hear about Scarlet. My family and I feel your grief as we have lost two boat buddies this last four weeks. Let everyone and every animal know that you love them.
So sorry for your loss. It’s a very hard thing to accept
Matt -Excellent tribute to Scarlett. She was a special lady. Jimmy our thoughts are with you.

I know the totally empty feeling in your heart. I would like to say it will heel, but honestly I have never gotten over loosing my best buddies. One look at one of my previous golden buddies riding in the bow of the Whaler or sitting next to me on an afternoon sail and the loss is there again. We are all enriched by their being in our lives. You have my sincerest sympathies. They have only one fault and that is that their lives are too short.

I never knew Jimmy Stewart but those are true words. RIP Scarlet.
I have always enjoyed seeing Scarlet in photos as she reminded me of my old golden. Like Johnny, Jimmy’s touching poem made my eyes moisten. Just buried my old yellow lab in November. Condolence to all who loved Scarlet.
I know how much your pet meant to you and how sad you feel in your loss.
In missing your special friend, find comfort in knowing you gave Scarlett a good home and a wonderful life.

Matt thank you from the bottom of me heart for the beautiful tribute to Scarlett.
Take comfort in the fact that she knew she was loved.
Jimmy, so sorry…It’s amazing how we become so dependent on our furry companions unbridled dedication and loyalty, at times even more so than our human friends. Thanks for including her in the local and boating community. I echo, she was loved and will be missed-
No words can express the emotions of losing a beloved best friend. Losing my best friend, Stein, a Yellow Lab, left a hole in my heart that will never heal. He was the other half of my boat passion, Frank&Stein BoatWorks and financed many a boat acquisition…. (He had a special bank account and would “lend” me money on very generous terms as long as I took him boating with me) That was many years ago and I still miss him so.
Jimmy, I’m so sorry for your loss. Whenever I saw Scarlett she was the perfect Golden Retriever Ambassador, greeting everyone and allowing the obligitory petting… Last saw her at the ACBS Tidewater workshop last spring at Eric Zelman’s… Thank you for sharing her with us…
I take some solace in the poem “The Rainbow Bridge” but have yet to read it through with dry eyes,,,, we will reunite one day with all our best friends, of that I am certain…

Mike, Loved the rides! It’s so hard to loose our Buds!
funny ?.. Eric wrote and posted the above comment while I was writing mine
we are all on the same, sad page…
I only ever saw my dad cry once…when he had to put his beloved Boston Terrier down.
So sorry Matt, we have had a few golden girls pass and it is always tough. They sure do love the boating life!
Such sad news, indeed…Love our boat puppy, “Gilligan”
They may only be here for a short time, their memories last a lifetime.
Very sad news 🙁 My most sincere condolences to Jimmy. Saying goodbye to a dog that has been by your side for so long is never easy.
You have me crying at my desk. She was one of a kind. Great pictures!
So hard to accept when they suddenly pass. So sorry to here of your loss, Jimmy. RIP
Truly a sad day. We all love our pets. Condolences from Brody and Sailor.
Jimmy, I am so very sorry for your loss of Scarlet. My heart is breaking from the pictures, Matt’s thoughts and after listening to the great Jimmy Stewart’s poem “Bo”, it was necessary to grab the Kleenex.😢 You gave Scarlet the very best life any dog (or most humans) would experience in a lifetime. How special she was to all. God bless.🙏
Have you ever come a cross a 1939 45 foot ELCO called the Sea Car?
Thanks to Jimmy Stewart and sincerest sympathy to Jimmy Scott. In the second picture today that is my hand on Scarlet.
Printed it off and used as my diary entry for today…a sad day.

So sorry for your loss , Louie , Walker, steve and laurie
Words escape me as we share the loss of great and true friends. But we will remember the good times, smile and laugh, then feel the hole in our lives where they once were. Although it hurts, it is proof of how much they meant to us.
Thanks for sharing.
Scarlet you will be missed!
Jimmy know we are all with you!
Looks like Scarlet led a good life. And for a Golden Retriever, the more splashing, the better…..
I am so sorry for your loss . I totally understand the pain. I lost my best friend Stella 3 years ago and I am still very torn up.
Jimmy, I am very sorry for the loss of your wonderful and devoted friend Scarlet. All of us who have lost our beloved furry best friends feel your pain. Rest in peace Scarlet.
Scarlet lived a great life, thanks to Jimmy. She was one of those special dogs that come along infrequently in our lives.
I feel your pain, our Sam’s been gone 5 years.
Jim, no better example to show us how a man can be a pets best friend and how a pet can be a man’s best friend. I think only in a formal restaurant setting did we not see Scarlet at your side. In those very few situations we knew she was close by in a running GMC truck with the engine running and air conditioner on with windows half open. We will miss you Scarlet and we have nothing but wonderful memories of a man’s best friend.
Jimmy,
As a fellow dog lover especially “Goldens”, I am so sorry to hear about Scarlet. We have lost 2 best friends and it is never easy.
Only time and thinking of those great memories will help the healing and greiving process. Everyone knows you gave her the best life a dog could have.
Scarlet will be missed by so many but never forgotten!
Thanks for sharing your lovely remembrance of Scarlet, Jimmy. We’re thinking of you both, and wish you a healing 2020.
Farewell, Scarlett. I’m truly sorry for your loss, Jimmy. I had a Golden…. they are truly, truly special dogs.
