Want to see the two Golden Pond Boats in person this year? You wont have many chances, but if you are in the Jersey area, NYC…etc, they will be at the Toms River Boat Festival to help promote the show and area after the devastating effects of Sandy. In true Jersey fashion, the show…wait.. the Festival must go on. That to Fellow Woody Boaters Gary and Tamra Micco who have tirelessly kept up the fight to promote the festival. And to the the generous folks at Katz’s Marina for bringing some Varnish heat to the show.

The main difference with this event, which they call a “festival”, not a “show”, is it’s in a park surrounded by water with a foot bridge. We have 30-40 nautical vendors as well as 4-5 food vendors. There are nautical artists, pirates who perform skits and mingle with the people all day, children’s activities (mini sail boat building and a coloring contest) as well as the Garden State Model Boat Club who run their mini power boats up and down the canal. And, in the middle of all this, are the boats on the water, which can be 50’+ and boats on trailers.

Weather permitting, there could be up to 5,000 in attendance. And, to add to this, one block away is the NJ State Ice Cream Festival. Hold on… Ice Cream Festival, That sounds worth the trip just for that. Ya gotta love the folks from New Jersey, they know how to put on a party.

My Commander SS was delivered to Barnegat Bay Marine in Toms River in ’69. Perhaps I’ll make it there someday with the boat in tow?

My monkey loves his ice cream.

NJ state ice cream festival? I feel a sugar coma coming on. I’ll have a ‘death by chocolate” dipped in varnish.
