Sandro and his crew at Riva-World recently completed a 3-year restoration of this amazing Riva Aquarama Lamborghini – certainly one of the most outstanding classic wooden boats on the planet, which has been nominated for the title of Classic Boat Powerboat of the Year. Also – If there was an award for best 5 minute video of a classic Riva boat, the YouTube video of the Riva Aquarama Lamborghini (featuring Carlo Riva) at the end of this Press Release would also get our vote.

UITHOORN, HOLLAND – February 14th, 2014.
The Riva Aquarama Lamborghini, built 45 years ago for and commissioned by Ferruccio Lamborghini, founder of the superb Italian sports car brand, is the fastest Aquarama in the world and has been fully restored to its original condition last year. Now this Aquarama has been nominated for Classic Boat 2014 Powerboat of the Year by the prestigious magazine Classic Boat and voting is still possible.

A Dutch Riva collector tracked down the boat some years ago and had it fully restored to original condition by Riva World, a world-renowned Dutch specialist in the restoration of Riva boats. The project took around three years in total, during which the Aquarama was returned to its original condition from top to bottom.
The wooden hull was repaired, sanded and no fewer than 25 coatings were applied. The wooden interior was repaired and the seats were re-upholstered in the famous Riva design; all buttons and switches were disassembled, repaired and re-installed; all chrome parts shine again like new and… naturally Lamborghini’s Riva received a new beating heart. Now it is the fastest Aquarama in the world, thanks to twin Lamborghini V12 engines from the very first Lamborghini ever created: the 350 GT.

The two wonderful sounding Lamborghini 4.0 V12s deliver 350hp each and are equipped with six twin Weber carburetors (twelve in total) with a rev range between 700 and 5,000 rpm. Together they give the Riva Aquarama Lamborghini a top speed of around 48 knots, compared to 40 knots for regular Aquaramas that Riva fits with twin V8 units as standard equipment.
With the completion of the restoration this unique one-of-a kind Riva Aquarama Lamborghini has become a magnificent collector’s item that knows no equal in terms of restoration level and workmanship.

The competition is not even close to this boat, when you look at the type of boats, the boesch is a wonderful boat but the picture does not come clsoe to giving it a chance to beat the riva. The riva engines are identical to the original and rebuilt by lamborghini. I have been to Lake Iseo and had the opportunity to see this boat at Bellini Nautica. Not sure how we got so far off subject but while we are….Check on the back of the 1947 (?) I’m pretty sure it was ’47 Chris Craft sales catalog for a story about a Chris Craft that was a Dunkirk shuttle boat that saved quite a few lives. Wish i had the catalog here to scan and photograph. I think we did a story about her in the Brass Bell which should be findable in the club on line archives.
Wonder if there were any Rivas in that masive supply of small ships saving lives ?

As the voting is being held by a classic boat magazine in the UK, I suspect that the “Challenge” may do better than the Riva in the vote, as the Brits celebrate and honor the saving of the BEF from the beaches of Dunkirk.

PS – that boat has 800 horsepower and clocks almost 60 at sea level.
