Well? What’s My Big Adventure Mr Fortune Cookie Company?

Classic Boats

The real adventure

Well, I did tell you that I would be milking this. Yes, Milk and Cookies. If you read yesterday I talked about a fortune cookie that claimed an adventure opportunity would present itself. mmmm, well, I had the opportunity to mow two lawns. And the opportunity to take two showers, 3 t shirts and thats about it. With a heat index of 108 with a matching humidity, the real adventure is trying to do anything outside when you could just be sitting in your lazy boy in the AC. But if I do that, the phone starts to ring and emails and so. Being outside is the answer to those calls.

Image from a story in 2009 I will link it at the end of the story

So what does this have to do with boats? Well, they are all finally ready for summer. Yup, Floating, cleaned up and running. Of course, here is the big observation. Working on the boats IS boating. Being OUT on a boat is just a small part of the experience. The adventure is all the little things that lead up to the ride. The ride though never really delivers as much satisfaction and the boat itself.

This all relates back to the dopamine effect and Instant gratification vs long lasting gratification. Our classic boats ARE Long Lasting Gratification. Maybe the big adventure is this. Maybe it’s the process, the journey, the humanity and long relationships that are the real adventure. The term adventure itself is about the journey, not the destination.

I know this is getting all rather zen and blabberfestish.. Yes I made up that word. But it is at the core of our community and what truly unites us. AND could save us. Open your eyes along the way, walk vs run, and you will be so much more fulfilled. THAT IS THE POWER IN CLASSIC POWER BOATING. I am so going for a boat ride today. And hopefully not break down and have to adventure my fat ass home.

It’s all an adventure HERE IS THE LINK TO The ROAD TO SOMEWHEREVILLE

Your face, in the photo of you cruising in Stinky, is the face of pure content. I love it! It is kinda sad, when you view the direction culture has taken, just in our lifetime. In chart form, it is a bit disturbing. I’ve gotten that t-shirt thing down to two shirts. The first gets soaked, I throw it over the fence rail to dry and put on clean. By the time the second one gets soaked the first is dry and I don that shirt for the second time. Who cares if I stink. It’s not a fashion show! Get out on the water if you can!

Antique boats and boat shows are always a “safe place”.

My wife understands and even supports my mahogamous affair. I’m sure there’s that dopamine effect when scanning Antique Boat America, Marketplace, Boat Trader or at a boat show looking at all the beautiful boats that are out of my league, that I can’t have, that I can’t afford, or would be too high maintenance of a relationship to possess them. Then I sit back and appreciate what I have. I honestly enjoy admiring my boat sitting on the trailer, the boat lift or just floating at the dock as much as driving it.
