For those of you that followed the great Chain Gang week long milking over the winter, Yip Yap is Back, in her owners hands. miles of smiles and a much needed break from Lock down in Germany. Yesterday we finally got to reunite them and get Yip Yap back in the water and go go go!

Yea, Troy, I also would love to get into a boat like the first one I had as a kid. Had a chance a couple of years ago when our Water Wonderland ACBS chapter started building these little hydros for kids at the Boat show. My mind said let’s build one and get out there and have fun, but my body said “WAIT, WHAT? ARE YOU CRAZY!!!

Aint that the truth!! I have to remind myself Im not in my youth anymore.. and those small boats we used to fold into in the past just dont work with a increasingly creaky and “softening” body!
That might be the only stained/varnished Mini Max I have ever seen. It’s beautiful. A friend who builds models built a 1:8 scale replica of my Mini Max when I was 12. It sits on a shelf in my office with a couple of pics of me back in the day.

… ahhhhhh, an 8′ Minimax — my 3rd woody. My dad and I built it in our living room back in the ’50’s. Memories.

It was like no time passed at all between us. It was like I was 15-16 again. Heaven forbid, if we both are on the same side of the boat though – that was the first thing I told Suzy2. “Please don’t kill me, we don’t have health insurance here”
You don’t need health insurance if you die. When you really need it is when you almost die, but leave enough pieces to be sewn back together. That gets expensive!

Nice work Matt! Tho I could probably find it here in previous posts.. Whats the year and hull number on that Whirlwind? Looks like a Super deluxe without the padding.. And I really like the look of the painted motor. Its a great compromise between the “look” and reliability thing… Ive been more towards original, but you may have convinced me to go modern and not have to worry about the breakdown thing… and then Id put some of boats in the water! (“Period Power vs Power, Period ” to quote JFR)
I hope the water thing was a transom plug… Hot moulded Whirlwinds should not leak as they are basically a single moulded hull with the transom attached…

What a cool little boat! looks like a “boat load” of fun. The boat definitely looks better on the water than on the trailer. Im sure that you are excited to have Hank home also. My first woody (boat that is) was given to a guy in the U P as a fishing boat, when I got into dirt bikes and cars as a teenager. I found a pice of it on the shore about 10 years ago. Like Troy I’m going to have to find a picture of it. When I do I will share.
Agree on the water, never leaked this bad before. the previos folks put empxy on the seams. And I am not sure that helped. Its around the transom for sure and the splash rails leak though the screws. But right now not all that bad enough to take her out. But I do think the transom could use a re fit, and seal. Along with the splash rail. Its titled as a 1958 Jr, But who knows.
Ok that makes sense… the leaks.. Ill look through my “library” and see if I have 1958 brochures,.. I made copies years ago and gave a set to Howard Johnson who included them in his great Whirlwind book…
So, is Yip Yap moving to Germany or are Hank and Suzy2 moving to the US?

Matt – Guess there is a new project in the works for you and Hank……this is the perfect story for a children’s book……the history, the memories, the adventure, the teamwork and excitement to get it home as people cheered it on……the photos through the years……could be from the point of view of Yip-Yap remembering “home.” Put me on the list for a copy!
