Breaking News From The Woody Boater Lodge – Folks Virtually Arriving All Day, By All Ways!
As expected, the First Annual Virtual Woody Boater Holiday Party up at the lodge on Lake Cyberspace is attracting folks from all over the country, including some celebrities. As they were arriving today, our virtual Woody Boater Roving Reporter Irving was sending us these live-ish photos of the mayhem, and it appears that folks are using what ever means of transportation necessary just to get up there today, before happy hour at the lodge.
The crowds of people were simply unbelievable earlier today as they arrived at the dock… Erving said “It was NUTS down at the marina all day, as the boats arrived, packed with people looking for a good time!”
Virtual celebrities were using what ever had wheels and a motor (and a chauffeur) to get up to the lake from the city…
To our surprise, even Uncle Milty showed up in his vintage Packard station wagon.
Some came up to the lake and landed at the local airstrip down the road, flying solo in their vintage aircraft…
Some guy in nearby Woodyboaterville was even transporting folks up to Lake Cyberspace with his rare, classic GM Fairbus…
And a group of guys from New York arrived in their unusual wooden boat / car to show off…
Folks from Canada were arriving by vintage de Havilland Beaver sea planes…
And some folks from the West Coast arrived via Pan Am on a very rare, virtual Boeing 314! Crazy stuff man…
And get this – A group of guys from Italy even rolled in to town on vintage Vespa scooters to add some international flavor to the event.
So all we can say is, “Do what ever it takes to get up to the Woody Boater Lodge on Lake Cyberspace tomorrow to attend the big party on Friday!” Woo Hoooo!
No sign of the Century guys yet, but we heard they were en route somewhere in Pennsylvania…

The Triple’s on the trailer and all ready. I’ll send a picture of the launching at Cyberspace Marina tomorrow. Should be there 1st thing in the A.M. for breakfast.
Great! The best part about Lake Cyberspace is that it’s always warm, calm and the boat launch is never crowded…
A table with a merc on it? Who would have thunk it!
Yeah, this picture is from the XK archives (did Alex provide this?) – this guy is testing the new bottom design for the upcoming XK that was released soon after with very little modifications to this design !
John Hollansworth Jr. and I were taking photos of boats consigned to the Kissimmee auction today on Lake Eustis. During our lunch break, ACE Woody restorer Lance Wilson sat with us. He shared a great story about a Gar Wood his grand father (I think, might have been his father, can’t remember for sure) showed him on the lake near their house not far from Detroit. Some time after that they would actually help the owner fire it up and go for a 1-2 hour run around the lake. It didn’t always start but when it did they had a blast. It had a Liberty V12 and obviously made a ton of noise! The interesting part of the story was the owner. He would regularly sit in the front cockpit with his buddies and smoke cigars. Lance was told he did that because the wives wouldn’t let them smoke in the cottages. Here’s the kicker! Lance found out many years later, after the rides stopped the owner was none other than……..
JIMMY HOFFA!!
Just found this on WIKI,
Jimmy Hoffa married Josephine Poszywak in 1936, and bought a modest home in Detroit.[5] The couple had two children: a daughter, Barbara Ann, and a son, James. The Hoffa family later had a summer property at Lake Orion, Michigan, north of Detroit. I guess it was Lake Orion!
My carriage is in the restoration shop getting new wheels. The princess and I will be along shortly . . . . but always timely!
Love the first picture! I remember being towed under that bridge! Damn impeller! Not to worry though, I will be there on time – just in case I am fashionably late, I sent the wine on ahead!
Yes, of course, it was vintage wine! Silly question!
The case of vintage ARRRGH! wine arrived safely, it’s stashed away until Happy Hour EST – Thanks! (aged on the truck?)
Is Jimmy Hoffa cOmeimg?
We sent Jimmy a virtual invitation last week, it was delivered on a Teamsters truck to Jersey… My guess is he will show up with the Century guys.
Well, I can’t make even a virtual shindig due to the lack of interweb at my locale for the weekend, but I and my Mullins will be there in spirit -in fact we will be pulling up to the dock shortly. If it can’t be a triple Gar, it may as well be unique!
OK I am here with all of my lapstrakes, Lymans, Penn Yans, Sea Skiffs, Thompsons, Andersons, and a few that I do not even know the name of. I know it is only 8 in the morning but I want to start now before the interruptions begin. So whip out the varnish and lets get started. Sandpaper for everyone. My lapstrakes need alot of attention. PARTY!!!!!!
I went boating yesterday and missed this thread…..I did the right thing!
