Is WoodyBoater Tone Deaf? What?
Over the past couple weeks we here at WoodyBoater have tried to make this a place to step away from the gloom and doom. And to help support our community in anyway we can. Humor, a helping hand, financial support, and most importantly an escape. Without being tone deaf and showing people having fun on their boats. It’s a fine line. Sometimes I cross it, and sometimes it gets boring since its the same crap everyone is talking about.
We have not buried our heads in the sand for sure. In my real life, I have been working 24/7 on messaging for this issue for my clients. How to be clean, how to be safe etc. In fact I am writing this at 4AM after being on a group email chat about business.
Yes I got taken to task on this image.. Yes, the above image.. WTH?
WoodyBoater, you, and your nutso comments are my escape. And some are nutso off line, in emails… YIKES…. I am writing this not as a job, or chore, but a release. NOT A TROY RELEASE! A Jaxon release..
And so I decided, for better or worse to capture the real emotion that our boating embodies. Escape from reality. It’s a necessary thing. You can’t sit in a corner of the room and be scared 24/7. You need a break for your sanity, you need to stay home, and stay safe. And what better than to go out and work on your boat. No one wants to be around you anyway when you are varnishing, and repairing.
I will add, that of all the communities I know of, this one, us, here, the ACBS and The Antique Boat Museum, we have a unique ability to push through crappy times. Think about it. We love old wood boats. OLD CRAPPY IN BARN ONES. Boats that sink, breakdown, smell, cost, require constant attention, and yet, we keep going.. WHY? because our boats are metaphors of life.
Good comes with bad, And most importantly, bad comes with good! We are in the bad now, and no matter what happens. It will be good again. make the best of it. It’s okay to laugh, joke and go for a ride if you need it. Take time to smell the varnish. Take time to do the things you never have time for. Because, now you do.
For your enjoyment to know I do have a heart. Here is a video I made for the Boatress and her business. It captures all our heartfelt feelings.
So we stay at home and watch the snow melt. Waiting for the lake to thaw. Then Woody stopped in for a snack. Boating season will be here soon.
Wow a real Pileated Woodpecker.
Great video Matt. Getting lots done. Time is valuable so use it to do what you love.
Matt please don’t stop with the humor in the stories you are very wise and good man thanks for everything
Yup. A bully. Chased this guy off. Boy am I bored.
I’m really hoping my ride in Stinky built up my immune system
Yes it did.. I go out and rub some stinky on me daily.. Tell Dr Denise our new WoodyBoater Surgeon General, we may have found a new vaccine.
As with all great works, it is appreciated by some and not by others. Some people look at the Mona Lisa and think “She’s not a Troy girl” and others pay millions of dollars for a chance to own the painting. Boating, and Wood boats are like that. And when I can’t put mine in the water and go personally, I can do it when I read your articles and look at the pictures. Like I love the way the photographer (Boatress?) captured the reflection of the bow accent striping in the windshield. Plus the humor with the pup mask and cape was super!! 🙂 Reminded me of Underdog the cartoon 🙂 We appreciate the 4 a.m. effort you put in for our benefit. On behalf of the readership, THANK YOU!
Hang in there WoodyBoaterville. We will get through this together and be out on the water again. Mo is waiting for her first ride of the year!
In anticipation of being able to gather together sometime this summer, I’ve got one of my crew and best friends, Bob Bramlage, working solo At home and with safe distancing of course, on a new transom bar for the marina.
We’ve “repurposed” a totally lost 17’ C-C Ski and it will now be able to entertain everyone. Thanks to Butch Davis for getting it to me, along with Chuck Grewe and Jim Staib for some deck hardware of course! (This was a community project!)
When this scourge passes, be sure to drop by and belly up to “Bottom’s Up” for your favorite libation!!!
Till then, everyone stay safe, stay sane and let’s all stay together. Our looney bunch is just too damn fun!!!
Humor is the only way I’m getting through this, thanks for keeping me laughing
Looking for other wood boats on the St John’s
On the contrary Matt, a little lightheartedness and humor is a good thing during down times. Especially when the 24/7 news cycle does nothing but proclaim the sky is falling. Places to visit like WB provide a good escape.
Bob Murdock, Where in N Michigan is your marina? I would be pleased to have a drink some afternoon at your boat-bar. Particularly if you’ll be serving Mt Gay and tonic. With lime of course!
Clay,
We are in Indian River, off exit 310. Howe Marine.
Our prayer and hope is to have a celebration drink to kick off the season with all our friends Memorial Day weekend.
Depending on when we can crawl out of our respective caves and re-open that is……….😄
We’ll make it a pot-luck and everyone can bring their favorite libation to share.
We’ll all need to say hello in person by then!!!!!
Bob
I didn’t know that you were located at Indian River. I get through there a couple times a year on my way to the beautiful U P. I also would like to stop by your marina and have a couple. Hope to see you this summer 🍻
Sounds like a plan Mark!!!
I really….REALLY….appreciate the humor and witty banter I find here, along with the beautiful photos, interesting stories, and reminders that this world crisis will eventually pass. Thanks for all you do to keep this site fresh and refreshing.
Went golfing with a best friend yesterday. He knows nothing of social distance and would rather be boating but this will have to do for now.
great, out efffing state outlawed golfing. staib left in the nick of time
Matt, you the man, keep keeping on
Tried to get out for a ride but can’t reach the petals.
never have I appreciated my stay aboard boat so much! Spending most of our time there…..being safe…..missing folks…
Best to All.
Going Boating…in the wide open bay spaces….
John in Va.
wow! I figured out how to POST a PIC!
John in Va
The dog pic didn’t bother me at all! Although . . . I may have been that guy sometime in the past (not with Woody Boater). So I hope anyone that gave it to you has other issues that are causing them to attack you. I’m sorry. I figure the bikini pics get you the most grief! I miss them! (A newbie here, trying to figure out how to get me a boat.)
