I, the mayor of Woody Boaterville hand the key to the city to Mr Brian Robinson. He has saved the day. BIG TIME. Thanks to a quick phone call Brian pointed out a flaw in Sylvia’s deck. What a keen eye. I have put in two shots of Sylvia. One is correct, the other is not. See if you can find it. A hint. She was built in 1941.

    It’s the caulking joint down the center of the king plank. Well, what is normally considered a king plank but not so on ’41 19′ model. How close am I?

    Dead on. For some reason someone changed it on the older boat? Dang, I matched it up to what I thought was the orig. There is one powerful argument for standards.

    Cutting that joint in has to be nerve racking after 6 or 7 coats of varnish are already laid down. Too bad you can’t make it suddenly appear in real life like you did in the photo, all within the same brush stroke. I’m impressed.

    Just how will you do that?

    I am on pins and needles. But acording to my pals, the varnish is still kinda soft. So?? And we are going to tape it and sacrifice a goat.. I am not clear on the details. Honestly, it’s uglier, and if some smarty pants could come up with a reason to keep it. I would grab onto that like a dog in heat. There…

    That Brian Robinson knows his stuff. I have stared at barrelbacks for a long time, and I thought I knew all of the esoterica…but honestly I never notice the center plank in the 41s. If you were to ask me I would have thought the false seamed version was incorrect. I have much to learn from these guys.
