It’s Symposium & Workshop Season And The ACBS Has An Impressive Lineup For 2013
Fellow Woody Boater Dick Werner and his dedicated crew at the Antique & Classic Boat Society (ACBS-HQ) have another impressive lineup of informative Symposiums and Workshops scheduled for the 2013 season.
These hands-on events continue to be very popular with the do-it-yourselfer and amateur boat restorers throughout the hobby, covering many aspects of repair and maintentance for your classic boat. From wood repair and basic plank replacement, to varnish and stain, to vintage marine engine maintenance, steering & mechanical, and even fiberglass repair for some of the newer classics.

ACBS Symposium/Workshop
Antique Boat Center in Cincinnati, Ohio

Description:
There will be classes on fiberglass repair, steering wheel restoration, staining techniques to blend new wood with old, damaged plank repair, marine engine issues and outboard motor maintenance. There will be plenty of hands on opportunity to participate.

ACBS Symposium/Workshop
Sunnyland Boat Festival in Tavares, Florida
March 23, 2013
Location: Tavares, Florida. It will be held in the main tent on the boat Show Grounds
Description:
This symposium will primarily center around engines. We will have sessions on marine engines, maintenance and simple fixes. There will also be an in depth talk on the Hemi engine. Another session will cover transmissions and proper adjustments. There will also be talks on simpler methods of stripping as well as staining techniques.
Registration Fee: Compliments of the ACBS and the Sunnyland Chapter. You will need a boat show ticket to get in.

ACBS Workshop
Lake Oswego Boat Company, Portland, Oregon

Description:
The Northwest workshop will be held at the Lake Oswego Boat Company shop just outside of Portland, Oregon. There will be a session on fiberglass repair, selecting the proper paint for fiberglass and wood and a step by step process in replacing a bottom and much more.

ACBS Hands-on Workshop
Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York
May 17, 18, 19, 2013
This will be similar to the workshop in Cincinnati. There will be an in depth hands on workshop involving damaged wood repair, staining, varnishing, lofting techniques and engine maintenance and repairs. There will be plenty of hands on opportunity to participate.

The Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society continues its 35 year tradition of winter educational workshops. Three are scheduled for February, March and April 2013.

These are amazing events, if you are with in a reasonable distance to any of these, and the way they are set up, you should be, they are worth the trip and over night stay. This is a Woody Boater recommend big time!
I went to one in Clayton last spring. I highly recomend it. Also, bring a coat, the river is still a bit chilly.
I went to the one at the Antique Boat Center last year and it was very comprehensive and an unprecedented handout package. Also thought the one at Sunnyland/Tavares 2 yrs ago was exceptional, it was held the Wednesday before all festivities as I recall.
