Join Woody Boater In Welcoming Angilla To The World Of Antique & Classic Boating
At the recent Sunnyland Antique & Classic Boat Festival in Tavares, Florida we had the pleasure of meeting Angilla Baccus. Angilla is the new Associate Editor for the Brass Bell, the Official Quarterly Publication of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club.
Although the Sunnyland event was probably the perfect venue to introduce Angilla to the hobby (outside of the office), it’s certainly a great deal of infomation to obsorb in a very short period of time – but she simply took it all in stride. Angilla also spent some time with us at Woody Boater Headquarters which was not for the faint of heart this year.
From the early morning photo shoots on the water with Don Ayers, to working at the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club tent during the day, to attending all the social events in the evenings – every day was non-stop busy. Below, here’s Angilla getting to know some of the folks at Woodystock FLA on Thursday night.
After returning home from Florida, I asked Angilla to comment on her new role with the Brass Bell and her experience at the Sunnyland show. She said….
I’m from Edmond, Oklahoma (the same city as Don Ayers). I hold the position of Associate Editor for The Brass Bell. In that position, I edit articles that we receive and contribute to forming the content of the magazine. I also connect with readers and potential authors to discuss and develop ideas for upcoming issues. Coming into this position I knew little information about classic boating, but recently, I made a trip to the Sunnyland boat show in Tavares, Florida.
That show really changed my whole perspective on the boating hobby. I met such wonderful, genuine people. Antique boating isn’t their hobby…it’s their passion. The passion spilled onto me as well. I learned so much on the Sunnyland trip and I can’t wait to learn more. Seeing firsthand how the boating community relates to one another and takes pride in their hard work–it was an honor for me to be a part of that. When I have the adequate funds, I would like to purchase a wooden boat myself (for my first boat, possibly, a 17′ deluxe runabout). It has been such a privilege to work with Terry, Brian, Don, and Bill. At Sunnyland I was able to finally experience a boat show at its finest. That weekend was one that I will not soon forget. – Angilla Baccus
On Friday afternoon Angilla and Don went on the Sunnyland lunch cruise with Bill Hancock aboard “Fantasma” a rare 1959 Sebino runabout. Before long, Angilla was at the wheel of the Italian runabout gliding across the lake, which was caught on video by Don. Some girls have all the luck…
It was also great to meet Bill Hancock in Tavares and share some fun stories about the good old days of NASCAR – Thanks Bill!

Welcome Angela, the video of you driving is a great way to get your toes wet, but I think you need to dive in a little deeper now. Driving around on a sunny day is the hard work part of the hobby, make sure they let you in on the fun parts too. For your next video appearances, may I suggest removing screws from an old bottom, or perhaps applying a few coats of varnish.
I do like the 17 deluxe idea, but you did look good in the Italian boat, so I might also suggest a Riva. Lovely boats and it might also win you favor with one of the club guys.

Angella, it was a pleasure to meet you at the Sunnyland Show. It was indeed a whirlwind weekend for you with so many great activities, boat rides, photo shoots, cocktail parties, dinners and more. Glad to hear that you now have caught the fever for which there is no cure. I belive it’s called Woodyboateritus. There’s plenty of thearapy available for this afliction but there’s no cure.
A 17′ Deluxe would be perfect for you (post-war I assume). Happens to be my preference as well (as you already know). My goal is to have her at the Sunnyland Show next March.

Have fun selecting your first boat. May I suggest you buy one that is fully restored, yet a great deal.
That will save you money.
So you can keep buying more of them.

Angilla, I’m enjoying all the different variations on your name that the woodboater community can come up with! There is no deduction for spelling at WB but don’t try that at the Brass Bell! And remember, it’s S-Beeno!
The video of that blue eyed sweetheart flashing the camera a smile is a killer. Welcome aboard Angilla. I nominate Angilla for the next Miss Chris-Craft. All those in favor say “AYE”! OK, maybe I’m chauvinistic. Wonder if she needs a married, fat, balding, old guy intern?

Angilla is a real Gem. I found her through a work connection with her father. That video is the first time she has ever driven a boat and she did it in style! The 10 and 2 was cracking me up! I can only hope that she does not out grow us too fast

We enjoyed Angilla’s company and her steady hand with the video camera.
By the way – I was standing at the boat ramp on Sunday when Bill pulled up to haul the Sebino out of the water… I was listening to that Chris-Craft V-8 idle and I think that thing has a “Hot Cam” in it…

The original CC 283 for Bill’s Sebino is on this shop floor. He has some hopped up V8 in that thing and it will fly.
Angilla: We had a storm thru here Tues which knocked down a power pole not only blocking access to the neighborhood but cutting off power for an entire day and cable for two days so I’m late in saying “Hi”…It was good to meet and work with you at the Chris Craft tent at Tavares…There is another show next weekend at Apalachicola. If you are ready to head back east, the welcome mat is out.
