Next Weekend The Classic Yacht Association Presents – “Old Fashioned Days In The Park”

Fellow Woody Boater Kevin Murphy chimed in yestersday to let us know about a very special classic boat and car show at Burton Chase Park in Marina Del Rey, California on Sunday, July 24th. Kevin recently became a member of the Classic Yacht Association and the Southern California Chapter, who are hosting the big event, wants to get the word out via the good old fashioned Internet.

Last weekend fellow Woody Boater Woody Boater Ron Stevenson reported Live-ish from the 2011 Pacific Northwest Chris-Craft Rendezvous near Seattle. It was a big hit here on Woody Boater, as we received a number of nice comments and e-mails from folks who appreciated Ron’s report. That was primarily classic cruisers, now we have the “Big Guns” of the classic wooden boat world, the YACHTS!

But wait a minute! Before we talk about the big boat show next weekend, take some time to check out the Classic Yacht Association’s very interesting web site by clicking here. There are some very cool, very big, very elegant wooden boats that look terrific!

As noted on the web site – The Classic Yacht Association is dedicated to the promotion, preservation, restoration and maintenance of fine, old, power-driven pleasure craft.

The CYA has become a major influence in the growing awareness and appreciation of the classic motoryacht. The Association is very active with a yearly agenda of yachting and social activities that focus on the unique craftsmanship and designs of the classic era.

Thanks Kevin for bringing this to our attention, and if you are in the Southern California area next weekend, make plans to stop by Marina Del Ray to get a glimpse of some cool classic yachts, cars and motorcycles. We will hopfully get Matt to Deputize Kevin next week so we can get him to send us a report from the show.

Also, I thought this would be a good opportunity to sneak in a few photos of my personal dream yacht. Hey, we all have to have dreams – Right?

Just kidding, I actually spotted this “Fixer Upper” Lake Yacht for sale along the side of the highway recently and had to stop a snap a few shots…

Almost makes your eyes bleed, don’t you think?

There used to be a spray-on carpet-like material back in the 60’s that would look great on it and cover some of it’s faults. Had an uncle who used it on the cabin of a small Chris-Craft so he would not have to paint it. We stopped talking to him shortly after that!

James – According to the Broker, thats the original cradle the boat was shipped with from Dallas via a Sante Fe box car in 1959. However there’s nothing on the Hull Card to confirm this.

But he also told me it was shipped from the factory with Zebra upholstery & matching curtains too…
