Does not look all that bad, but one gust came in an almost knocked me down. In the 7 years I have been here the water has only twice come over the retaining wall. And just slightly.
We are really feeling the winds now, and the water is about 30 minutes from High tide. It’s going to be close. We spent the morning cleaning out the basement and lifting stuff. The sump pump had failed and drains clogged. that has all been fixed. Oreo of course is defiant and wants to be out in the weather at all costs. She loves it. Teenagers! Ugh..

We also just got word that the HMS Bounty film boat sank off North Carolina. You can google that. Story here. Apparently she lost power and water was coming in at 2 ft an hour. OUCH! Stay tuned and report in. For all our chums in New Jersey and New York. We wish you the best.

If still possible, you may want to try to get your hands on an electric or gas powered high volume utility pump. If you do take on water in your basement, the sump pump may not be able to handle it. Good luck and keep all of us that are thinking about you posted on your status.
I have a spare sump pump. They stick? Dam, I went down there and had to move it by hand to kick in. And its NEW.. an 800 dollar kind! I was also looking for my external bilge pump. The good news is that the tide is going down and has already dropped a foot in an hour. That may have been the worst of it. All the locals tell me that this was about where the water might reach. But after watching the news, I expected lightning bolts to zap us and.. I had to turn the channel and watch old reruns of SCTV..
What — no back-up 5-gal. Ace buckets???

Once the eye has passed the bay there is a possibility that the backside winds will drive some water out of the Chesapeake and lower water levels… at least in theory.. the bad part is having to deal with the winds. Up here in Ontario we are waiting the onslaught… Dang this is one of the many parts of global warming that i despise
It is getting closer. High water is not my concern. It is a tree falling on the house or shed or the wind ripping off a roof. If the water rose to Noah levels the boat is ready.

Just got a call from my marina, friend of mine there checking boats, mine and his (Elco) are doing ok…wind coming straight down the creek…50mph…..right on my bow…that is ok unless it stays in that direction so long chafing lines becomes the problem. That wind is blowing water out of the creek and now the dock barely covered with water.
Will go down to check as soon as safe.

Glad to hear the water is receding. Really hope that’s the worst of it for you.
Now about that photo… Next time, don’t stand so vertical. Lean against something so it looks windy. And for goodness sakes. Don’t wave hello. It looks like you’re waiting for a sprinkle to pass before rounding the 9th hole. Here are a few more tips to add drama.
1) Have one hand on your head, to look like you’re holding your hood on.
2) Have a microphone in your other hand. Angle it approximately 23 degrees for effect.
3) Have one of those flapping STOP signs in the background.
4) Scatter some debris on the ground.
Re that last point, what do we see in your pic…? Leaves? LEAVES? That’s the stuff of gentle breezes. Instead, go grab those Hemi’s under that blue tarp and scatter them behind you. Nothing says wind quite like a couple tumbleweed Hemi’s.
Oh, and another thing. Photoshop in some chop. I can’t see a single whitecap on the water.

Im in Pa were starting to get bad winds the rain isn’t so bad yet. Not supposed to get the brunt of it until 8 tonight. Anybody have any word from Lake Hopatcong? Hope everyone is safe

Tried to do a follow up story. We are out of power now and weak cell. Gobs of wind. But looks like the water may be headed up to ny. Dang we are hundreds of miles away and getting slammed now
