Stolen Holophane Glass Stern Pole Globe, for Chris Craft, Gar Wood, Gravettes, or Dodge Boats.- Please Be On The Lookout.

Theft is such a rare occurrence in this community that when it happens it  kinda is shocking. Like crazy shocking. But yesterday at the Nautical Flea market, an extremely rare, glass globe and pole was stolen from our pals at Classic Boat hardware. This no ordanary glass light. Its amazing, and very hard to find, and even more so, hard to hide. So? The question is? Why? And what is the person that stole it going to use it for? It only goes on several boats, very expensive boats, which begs even another question. Why? Was it a thrill? Try and sell it? Or use it. These boats are so rare, someone will notice.

SO, if you are the person that stole it. – here is something you can do. Send Joel the money for it. PAY FOR IT $800.oo We all get the moment of passion that can consume you. But come clean, Take the walk of shame, and we will make fun of you. BUT? Hey, the community will be back to its insanity.

And if anyone is about to buy one on ebay, Craigslist, Facebook, or in a corner in an ally send us all the listing, and lets make the world right again.

The link to Classic Boat Hardware is RIGHT HERE. Do the right thing.

How about everyone who was there check their photos to see if you have the heist in the background, or perhaps someone with a big bulge in their shorts

    Why?
Because the dirt bag that took it knew what it was worth, so it can’t have gone far from our circle. Someone will know someone……..
They also had another on display attached to a stern pole too. Thankfully, they put it away when the other theft was first realized.
The terrible part? Last year another dirtbag walked off with a gauge panel!!!! WTF?!?!??
Joel and his wife are staunch supporters of our hobby and we need to go on full alert. It will show up somewhere.
We all go out of our way to keep our boats alive and happy to share, give or make sure a certain part gets a boat back in the water.
    Keep your radar on.

CHECK YOUR CAMERAS! Thats a brilliant idea!!!! I am going to leave this as the lead story for a bit. It just pisses me off beyond words. So I will post a picture

Fay & Bowen we’re one of the few that used them. For those that are not familiar with them they are double cut glass. Rings go one way on the outside and the inside is cut 90 degrees from the inside ones

If someone stole one for a Faye and Bowen, someone would have seen them for sure. I mean you can only go so fast with a walker.. The tennis balls help though… So?

There are some (or should I say lots) of dishonest & cruel people in this world. No respect. Very angry reading this. I hope for a miracle and that it is returned.

I would doubt or at the very least HOPE it is not someone who is really a member of our community. There are a LOT of on lookers and wanta be’s that go thru the Dora gates and that thing looks cool as HELL regardless if you know what it is or not.

Heck it looks like something out of Harry Potter for that matter.

They also go on Dodge boats and early Hacker Crafts.

Also Pullman railroad passenger cars. In case anyone knows someone with one of those in their backyard. (This is where they were actually used)

I think Troy may be correct. A very cool looking object, even if one doesn’t know what it is. As one who’s done a bit of art glass work, this sounds like an amazing piece, requiring much time & precision to create. Cutting on the inside of that globe – I can’t even fathom attempting that. Mike’s idea of checking photos is a good one. Sad that it’s seems to have come to needing video surveillance for even a boat show flea market.

Its kinda crazy, one would think that anyone that knows what it is, would have the money and respect to need it, and it was on I think Friday. So could possibly be a hot rod type boater that thought it would be cool on there hot rod, not knowing how rare it is. And if we put it out there enough, hard to hide. It was in a basket with others BTW, I recall seeing it, so the person had to have looked at it previously. Regarding Cameras, there is one set up at the Resturant across the way, and the police were notified, and a report was issued. If I were the one that “borrowed it” one may want to return it and slither away. You will be found, and it will be awkward.

Oh no! And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy… someone who contributes so much to our hobby. Joel partnered with Sherwood Heggen on the restoration of my little Gar Wood, “Rabbit”, and keeps her running like a top to this day. I hope that the person pays up or is caught. And like Troy said, hope that he/she is not someone who’s actually part of the hobby, but rather just saw it as a beautiful, shiny object that they could walk away with.

Thank you Matt for drawing attention to this.
As a boating community, we all remember helping out fellow boaters when they have engine trouble, when they are not sure how to complete their project or to find that elusive piece to complete a restoration. We are a small but proud group of people and it is difficult to imagine this happening. But, unfortunately it has. I would also like to let others know about a thwarted theft on the field of dreams An individual attempted walk off with a part that was sitting out on a table. Luckily the owner saw it and confronted the thief. The thief stated he needed that part.
Finally I would like to thank the members of Sunnyland who stop by to say how sorry they were along with all the hard work that they put into the show and to my fellow Woody Boaters for their kind words and support. We will return but just a little more prepared.
May you all have fair winds and following seas

I like others, get mad as hell reading this. It proves that there are some real A$$holes in this world. So whats next, surveillance cameras at boat shows. Vendors having to lug heavy lockable glass cases into shows. Under cover security prowling around. There is nothing worse than a Fu(k!n thief. They ruin the flow of the whole world. Hopefully it will be found. Either way Dora will be different next year.

As I recall I paid $450. For one 20 years ago for my Hacker Dolphin Junior (Eleventh Hour). With inflation $800. Was proudly a good price. I had a custom made Streamliner burgee stolen of my Gar Wood at the Lake Arrowhead show last year. This year I will be removing all flags from boat at the end of the day. Sad sad world we live in.

Start looking on EBAY here in the next couple of days…if someone took it just for the thrill and *doesn’t* know what they have, they may be dumb enough to try and sell on EBAY or even Facebook Market Place…I hope its recovered beautiful piece!

Sorry it’s no fun to have things like this stolen it isn’t even about the money you can’t replace it just like the silver Arrow mast it’s only for those boats plus the lost trust in people at the shows putting everybody on edge

That’s really too bad. I remember showing that to Becky on Thursday because it is so beautiful and rare. If my memory serves, the base for it was smallish, as in not suitable for a standard runabout stern pole. Hopefully we can identify it and return it. I would be shocked if someone in our community took it.

It also got me to wondering how many chocks or other small things get swiped at these things and no one even notices?

Times they are a changin’…..stealing from stores is standard practice now because it seems to have been “legalized” somehow.

It happens more than you would think. I had several post war stern pole tops stolen when the show was in Mt. Dora.
I donated a tool kit at the Tahoe show auction and it disappeared. Happens more than you would think.

    Joel,
I am so sorry to hear of this theft and that it happened at our Sunnyland show. You are a huge supporter of our hobby with not only selling products but your knowledge when we need help on a project. Hopefully this beautiful piece is recovered.
