Thank You!

1941 19' Wind mttThis week has been a very emotional one for us here at Woody Boater. It actually started three years ago when we decided to see if Woody Boater could actually pay for itself. The first step was to re design the site, then to ask for support from sponsors that want to take part in the movement of bringing the wonderful joys of this passion to the world. The sponsors answered immediately without question and with huge support. We all have them to thank as well for allowing this all to take off like it has. No one can do this alone that’s for sure. Hagerty, Antique Boat Center, Katzs marina, St Lawrence Restoration, Sierra Boat works, Kocian Instruments, Nelson Boat Works Van Ness Engineering. Maritime Classics, Lake Oswego Boat Works, and the Chris Craft Antique boat Club have all been supporters since day one. You may have also noticed that we now have some new faces, Superior Chrome is a long standing quality chrome shop that has been doing marine chrome but never thought to promote it. Sunrise boat works, Freedom Boat Service, and the big ACBS sponsorship . The ACBS has been there behind the scenes for some time and we could not think of a better partner in all this . We all need each other to make this culture grow and prosper.  Our explosive growth is a reflection of us all working together not seperatly. Woody Boater  if you look at it now is the entire community all in one place.

The one thing that was missing was a way for you to help. Hence the donate button. It was not easy. Texx and i love our freedom and love doing this for fun and pride, not money. We each do very well in our business lives. But a funny thing would happen at events. people  would walk up and hand me money. I honestly did not know what to say at first. It’s embarrassing. I hand out money, I always pay for dinners, and help. I am not a good taker,  and neither is Texx. We always want to give more than we receive. And thats what the donation button is all about. It became clear that others are the same. They want to be fair and help. Your donations totaling over $3,000 in one day are stunning. My phone would ping each donation. Several for over $200.. I had to stop a meeting and leave the room and just sit alone to be honest. I was to moved to think straight.  One dollar made on Woody Boater is like $10,000 made for my other work. Each dollar you gave is a treasure to be applied in a senseless way to do dumb things to talk about all the dumb senseless things we do. The notes attached to the donations were priceless. Telling us to use the money for dumb things. As my family would say regarding gift money, go waste it one something stupid! Thats how I got started in the hobby with Sylvia. And I am sure my grandmother is smiling up in heaven right now.So, not to boar bore? you anymore. We want to thank you for your continued support. Go boating, its 70 here in Virginia!

It was only after I started reading WoodyBoater that I started going to shows and meeting great people. Before that I never gave the wooden boat community much thought or even realized the depth and breadth of the community. Thanks Matt. Also without WoodyBoater how would I have ever known Harley Texx or that someone named Chad even had a monkey.

A good start, to help wipe out that negitive cash flow. As I sit here sippin my cup of coffee, as I do every morning reading WoodyBoater, I am thinking of ALL the other Guys and Gals accross the WORLD doing the same thing. Hats off to you Matt and Texx, for being the creative force behind this wonderful site.
Now, since this is the FIRST WARM WEEKEND in West Michigan, I am off to spend some quality “LYMAN TYME”…

The boats in the boathouse. It’s going to be 70 here in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. I made my pledge to WB and I’m on my second cup of coffee. It’s a perfect Woody Boater day, except for one thing: There’s still two feet of ice on the lake.

Coverage of events and the rare and “one off’s” not withstanding (I’m talking about boats not Jim Staib) you guys have a knack for picking a subject and turning your “minions” loose on it. The entertainment factor is worth not only the read but the cathartic effect for those who have the time to respond. Sometimes this can reflect ones literary education or in my case a lack thereof.

Don’t hesitate to come knockin’ (just not when the boat’s a rockin’ LOL) before you have to start hawkin’ (your woody, that is).

I know you’re thinking hey I wonder if that guy in New Zealand has paid?! Well the truth is no he hasn’t. YET!
I am on a road trip down the South Island with my Arabian ‘ miss Tahoe ‘ to Lake Rotoiti where she will live for the years ahead. A bunch of guys are building a cafe and boat museum by the lake and they’ve just started accepting boats. It’s a great idea. People come in for coffee and pay to see the boats which offsets the monthly storage fee for the boat owners.
It’s a gorgeous Autumn morning crisp and ‘gin’ clear.
I will be on the lake by 9.00. So I haven’t paid but I most certainly will when I get back to civilisation.
The WB site is untouchable. Simply the best and I’m always happy to pay for quality. Now, bilge bung in- check, batteries to 1 – check blower on – check…

Turned the water on at camp today here in Maine (no ice on the lake). Was hopping to slide the dock in, but ran out of time because I spent an hour with my “Uncle” at his boat shop. Trying not to buy his hard top CC. Borrowed a paint stiper so I can do the lines on Mom’s ’57 Continental. LOVE this world of Woodys! Hope to meet you ALL some day!

Troy, just above here, is the future of the hobby. Didn’t get hooked by our “old media,” which include the Rudder and the Brass Bell (much as I love them both), but probably reads WoodyBoater online.
Fish where the fish are…WB is the future of promoting the hobby and attracting the next generation of hobbyists.
If you haven’t donated, do it today.
There isn’t anything “out there” to replace it.
