Thanks For Your Classifieds On The Classifieds.

Screen Shot 2015-04-11 at 8.43.41 PMThanks for loading your stuff on the new Woody Boater Classified page. It aint Ebay yet, but getting there. We have noticed a couple things that only one notices when things actually start working, and not working.

1. It’s been a little hard to know you have actually loaded anything on your end. That’s because we need to approve the ad. We check the page from time to time since we have yet to figure out a notification system. We are working on that.

2. Boats. No Expensive boats. This is something that we did not take into consideration. Several things happen when a person is selling a $40K boat. One is the buyer should have help. We can’t help, nor endorse. And to be honest, it competes with the very sponsors that support this entire endeavor. So, we will only allow listings under $7,000. The reason for that low number is those are usually not promising any fancy restorations and there is no real place to sell or give those boats to the community. Thats what “Adopt A Boat” is… I think, we just liked that idea,.  A place to find a safe home for your ex dream boat.

Screen Shot 2015-04-11 at 8.44.15 PM3. Culture, this is a place to buy and sell to and from other fellow Woody Boaters. Stuff you want to stay in the family. Stuff you would sell to a pal. An insiders place to share stuff. Ebay and other places are great for reaching everyone under the .sun, but not really fare to friends. I know that I would sell stuff to another person for 1/2 the price if I knew it was going to be taken care of and that the person knew what it was. That’s the spirit that will make the classifieds a special place.

Thanks for understanding the sausage making, and thanks for trying it out.

Like your advertising concept—Speaking of half price to good home…how about FREE to goo home…Two Alcort SunFishes ( precurser to SunFish) complete with sails, rudders & daggerboards.

      Wilson,
I hope I’m the first person to contact you! My husband showed me your post about the sunfish and I got so excited! I have been sailing since I was a little girl but don’t have a sail boat anymore. We moved to a lake two years ago which is the perfect size for a sunfish! I was thinking of starting to look for one and your note seems like the perfect chance. Are they still available? Where are you located? You can email me at shannonlynnhancock@gmail.com. Thank you!!

Sharon: My mistake in haste…They are Alcourt SailFishes which as I said were the precurser to SunFishes…but they are still here in Tallahassee, Fl.

I can send pics if you are still interested.

Wilson: Even a SailFish would be cool and perfect, but we are in Michigan and I don’t forsee a trip to Talahassee in the near future. Thanks anyway!

Shannon: If we can figure out how to get them there, they are yours…One has not been in the water in 10 years and at least 5 for the other so both need restoration work but both were fun when they were new….and all the parts are there.

Things seem a little slow today and header reminds me of a story dating to 1962 when the National Jayvee convention was in St. Louis…So a group of us Tallahahassee boys went to Perry, Fl and conned Lester Walker, owner of SprortCraft out of 4 20′ boats like the one in your header. Then we went to Kiekahfer and got 8 70 hp ( the biggest Mercury’s available) engines and lastly to Phillips 66 for promises to refuel the boats each evening.
Then off from Panama City, with no break in, across the Gulf to New Orleans, up the Mississippi to Vicksburg, Helena, Memphis and Cape Gerardeau before any engine trouble. One engine running rough. The dealer took it that night and brought it back with a new engine the next morning…# 6 piston thru the head, # 5 embeded in the head and # 4 just rattling around inside and the bottom three still firing. Last day it was off to St. Louis, under the Jefferson Barracks bridge with a Jaycee air escourt…only to be knocked off the front page of the St. Louis Post Dispatch by a bunch of wranglers from Wyoming who arrived two hours earling driving a herd of cattle from Cheyene. Our boats looked better in the parade than their cows. Boats were consigned to a dealer and we took the train home.

Wow Wilson!! I agree with Troy please get that to Matt with every detail you can what a hell of a cool story. Love that kind of stuff.

Matt I may have a boat to donate, changing the oil in the wife’s lil tin can fishing boat, a Merc 40 4 stroke for the first time after break-in. so if things don’t go well can I put a new rig on the add site. Oh and I promise there would be lots of patina on it when I finish.

And just guess where this lil jewel is made? CHINA!!! WTH

Matt, Great job with the classified section. Everything that is built will need some tweaking now and then. I couldn’t agree more with point number 3!

I am working up an ad for one of my whirlwinds and agree with the idea of nothing over 7K….good idea…for certain I would sell for less to one that cares, walks the walk etc.

WILSON: great story, great time/adventure! send more.
Rode in Whirlwind and cruiser yesterday on the Chesapeake…GOING BOATING….

I haven’t visited the Classifieds yet. But I must say, I like the phrase “Adopt a Boat.”

It might allow me to expand the fleet too. “Honey, I didn’t buy another boat. I “adopted” one. My aim was purely humanitarian.”
