That Lighthouse For Sale Near Me.

,

Mr B likes to swim there

Thanks for all the emails and texts telling me about the Smith Point Lighthouse for sale near us here in Reedville. Social Media and websites devoted to old homes has gotten the word out for sure, and for sure it’s been noticed. The listing which I will link at the end of the story for those of you that want more info.

For our regular readers, you no doubt have seen this lighthouse here on Woody Boater a bunch of times. It’s a short trip in the normal boats, and a 2 hr trip in Sweet Pea. Which is fun on a Sunday and a swim.

Has all the stuff you need.

The fantasy of course of staying the night or weekend out on a lighthouse is intoxicating. A kinda AirB&B dream money maker. And yes. It is. But like anything that you see everyday, fantasy and reality can be a fickle thing. Yes, I have been on it, in and and around it. It’s cool. And yes you are out there. Kinda between the mouth of the Potomac River and Tangier Island, and the Little Wicomico River.

There always seems to be someone hanging around it. I mean it’s right there. No fenced in yard, or driveway. Like owning a house with no yard in the middle of a public park. Fantasy vs Reality.  But the positives sure can outweigh the negatives. It is a totally different experience. Unique, and yes, could be a cool AirB&B. Film Location, and one hell of a small party place.

Do not touch the Boatress’s drinks!

The seller, will only allow you in if you have an accepted cash offer. Yup! And that is 100% the right call. Imagine showing it to everyone that is curious about seeing it. It’s a serious commitment to go out to it, climb up and so on. And the looky loos would drive anyone crazy.

Sunrise and Sunsets out the wazoooo!

Now that we have been a buzz kill. if you still gotta have it, and that part I do get. After all I bought an old railway. HERE IS THE LINK. BTW, I know a realtor? Just say’n.

Pretty unique piece of real estate and history. How the hell do you dock a boat to it without destroying the boat?

Similar to Greg’s question – obviously requires a boat to access it, but how does one get from the boat inside the “house”? And what does one do with the boat while there? Do you have to be dropped off & picked up, by a boat that doesn’t stay?

Very unique ! It would be a hell of a project. I hope someone buys it and fixes it up.

Have you all noticed that folks today seem to have problems with decimal places??? There is 1, perhaps 2, too many in that asking price…seen boats that way too???

There are solutions for heaving acces to the lighthouse during some harsher sea condotions.
But then you also need a superyacht to support such an active motion bridge.

SaveOurSouthchannel light houses has been the chant around Lake Saint Clair and Harsen’s Island for at least 20 years.
It is a group that has acquired, from the US Government, 2 range lights (they look like light houses) which were built BEFOR the civil war. This dedicated group has raised (and spent) well over ½ million dollars so far and aren’t done yet. They needed to be straightened, brick repair, sea walled, fenced and lots of back fill added. They did have some land around them but it was mostly eroded and had to be replaced.

Sorry NOT FOR SAIL AND NO CABLE OR BEDS

Not sure how having the Fed as the POA would work. Think of all the money you could save on not having lawn and pool maintenance though. Having the Chesapeake Bay as the moat surrounding your Castle might be fun trivia question.
