The Long Weekend Is Here! Are You Ready For The 4th?
Is there a better Woody Boater holiday than the 4th of July. Warm summer nights, Long days and sunshine glistening off a coat of varnish! Your boat has had its shake down cruise, and then the follow up shakedown cruise after fixing the issues. It should all be dialed in.
Family is around, burgers on the grill, and fresh Strawberry Shortcakes for desert. Heck it even ends with a bang, ohhhh, and ahhhhh. What could be better? Not much. It’s as wonderful a feel as that fist feel of Florida Sunshine when arriving at Lake Dora in March.
Or the first site of a flawless Varnish Job, or the sweet rumble of a finely tuned flat head. It all just comes together in a symphony of summer this weekend. Are you ready?
Got your life jackets, tools, and sunscreen ready. Sorry, age and wisdom dictate that all that is wonderful is for your guests.
You my man, or woman are the Dancing Monkey this weekend! Just make sure you stay smiling when your granddaughter smears a milkshake all over the seats. Then starts crying when you say something, starting an argument with with Daughter, that you never where a good father, and that time… Oh brother!
Or the engine stops in the middle of the lake for no reason, or you hit the dock, ya this went to a dark place. But here is one thing. Come February, you will remember all the mess ups and smile. Because its all part of the fun of Woody Boating. Now get out there. And live it up. Before you know it we will be last Gasping!
Well said Matt. We are heading to the cottage later this morning. Water Lily is waiting for us on her new lift and ready for some great runs this weekend. Happy 4th of July to all the WoodyBoaters. Have fun and be safe!
Almost ready, still slicing the bacon.
Rain or Shine . . . It’ll be a Grand Ole Time . . .
i didnt make it to lake dora, whats a “fist feel” did someone sock you? was it dim?
All set on Lake Charlevoix. Looking forward to good weather, flat seas, cold Oberon at the Landings Restaurant in Ironton and the fireworks in Boyne City!
I couldn’t tell. Was that sunscreen or a pint?? How you gonna celebrate the 4th with a pint? It’s supposed to be a 5th.
A fifth on the fourth …..but if you do the morning paper says the marine patrol will be looking for you
Yesterday a battery post let go…Not a good thing unless you are lucky enuff to have a battery with duplicate posts (terminals) and friends creative enuff to clamp the battery wire to the unused round post with a pair of plyers held in place with an elastic hair band which made plyers act like vice grips. What ever works…but it got us back to the dock
My cousin blew a post off a battery this spring. Moved it to a different boat that was setup for the round stud and all is well, so another reason to have a diverse collection of boats!
Maybe Woodyboater should ask everyone about their Macgyver moment on a boat. I’m sure we all have one that we can share that might help someone else at a later date…
Well, as always one project is behind schedule…my newest Whirlwind won’t be going to the great boat parade and fireworks in historic Urbanna VA….but I will take the Fairchild Scout 30….oh wait….at 6 knots I should have started that cruise up yesterday??!! What the heck….we are Going Boating!
Happy Fourth to all!
John in Va.
I don’t ever remember Coppertone ever stinging my eyes as a five year old. Now it seems I can’t use the regular stuff anymore because if it gets in my eyes it becomes a bit uncomfortable with all the stinging. Not how you want to be on the water this weekend or ever! Now I get the baby versions of the suntan lotion which has a respectable PDF number as well. It will say on the label “non stinging” or some such.
Have a great weekend everyone!

After three weekends on the road going to boat shows, I put “Family Tradition” back into Spring Lake for the next 6 weeks. Just going to take it easy, relax and enjoy West Michigan waters, my family, and life.
The stress of hauling the Coronado will resume in August to Hessel’s and of course all over Wisconsin in September!
Happy 4th to you Matt and all Woody Boaters!!
In reality, the 4th has always been…for me, when you get your wood wet. Just saying!
