Today Is First Day Of Fall! – Just 180-ish Days Til Lake Dora. UGH.

Blanket day!

Today is the day. No more Summer stuff. Get out the Faribault Blankets, and charge up you cameras. Fall is here. Fall Colors. Crisp rides through the last gasp days of 2018! This weekend we are actually putting some of the boats back in the water and going to ride out at least another month.

Lake Dora!

Today is also the official day of the Lake Dora countdown. Lets make 2019 the year we break all records for the Lake Dora festival. A wonderful event that rekindles all the passion from a winter of sanding and varnishing. You can find out more about the Sunnyland gang HERE. BTW, one of the best local chapter web sites out there. LOVE the boats featured. Well done, up to date and shows the charm and warmth of the gang down there.

Since there was some sort of show a couple weeks ago that NO ONE told us about, Dora will be our first chance in a long time to see pals from around the country!

So today, get out there. Get your Blankies out of the closet and lets go. Need a blanket? RIGHT HERE

I am definitely planning to attend. This show has always been one of my favorites! No one can beat the hospitality from our Sunnyland friends!

87 yesterday. High of 59 today. Yep, Fall has arrived.

BTW, it could dip into the high 30’s near A Bay tonight. Luckily there are no major events scheduled there this September or next.

Time to put the woodstove back in the cottage. I’ll do it today after I attend (and hopefully come home empty handed) the annual Finger Lakes Boating Museum auction in Hammondport. Still kicking myself for not buying that ’61 Coronado for $200.00 last year!

We never put the Faribault blankets at Balsam Lake.

So if you watch the video, the woman talking -Mary- is 84 years old and still works a few days a week, overseeing the looms. The mill itself is the “new” mill, built in 1892. Imagine if the Original Chris Craft factory was still operating, and the guy who built your ‘53 Sportsman was still building them.

Fall is here. Closed down the cabin, took the dock out. All northern boats are winterized and put away. A sad time, It was a good summer though. Kayaking and canoeing in southern Ohio in the fall is also fun.

    Fall?

I think I’ll spend the day clutching my heart and mumbling something about “coming ta see ya Lisbeth….oh this is the big one….”

    Definitely not ready for fall…..

We’ll, I guess the first day of Fall is the perfect day to send Flash south to her new home in North Carolina, where she still has some season left to enjoy. I’m gonna go shed a few tears in a nice warm blanket, or maybe a cold beer.

What a great humbling video about Faribault mill.
I am very happy when I see stories like this. Fine lasting products made with the hands of generations of people. I’d like to do a photo essay on the hands of Faribault. I have two of their rugs and they get a lot of comments.
