We Are Invited On A Sunday Morning Boat Ride With Lee & Sandy Chase Aboard Mountain Lyon
“Mountain Lyon” is a spectacular 1932 28′ Sea Lyon Runabout owned by Lee & Sandy Chase. The big triple cockpit runabout is powered by a Lycoming Model UF 1,010 Cubic Inch V-12 that produces 325 HP. The engine alone weighs in at a whopping 2,250 lbs and cost $3,750.00 dollars in 1932.
Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club President Terry Fiest had the opportunity to take the helm of “Mountain Lyon” while serving as Chief Judge at the 2010 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance last June. Terry wrote about his experience in the Summer Brass Bell (the official quarterly publication of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club) and described it this way…
“As we passed through 1,200 RPM we were gliding over the rough Lake Tahoe water like a Magic Carpet. At 1,800 RPM, the boat assumed a perfect riding attitude with all the sounds and vibrations of a vintage aircraft. There was a special resonance sound in the engine as it effortlessly powered the huge triple through the Tahoe whitecaps – pure pleasure and pure elegance.”
The video was shot in 2010 during the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic, which will be held on July 29th and 30th this year at Lake Tahoe’s only inland marina, Tahoe Keys Marina & Yacht Club in South Lake Tahoe.
Lets go for a ride on Lake Tahoe aboard “Mountain Lyon” thanks to Lee & Sandy Chase.
The 39th Annual 2011 Lake Tahoe Concourse d’Elegance which is held just up the lake at the Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay, California is now moved back to their traditional dates of August 12 & 13, 2011. This year the featured Marque Class will be a very rare but popular one: “Gar Wood – the Gentleman’s Runabout” – The organizers are hoping for as many as 40 Gar Wood boats to be in attendance for the 2011 event, including some Gar Wood boats that were originally delivered to Lake Tahoe between 1930 & 1947.
And if that’s not enough, the prestigious “Gathering of the Gar Woods” event is scheduled for Monday, August 15th at Obexer’s Marina in Homewood. Obexer’s Marina is the original Gar Wood dealer on Lake Tahoe from 1930-1947. Obexer’s is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
