Why I Am A Woody Boater
Matt – Just a note to you and the staff. We all have that special someone or group of people in our lives who is specifically responsible for introducing us to the hobby. You certainly remember the photo of me sitting behind the wheel of the Resorter at 6 years old. The person who took that picture was none other than …………
My Dad!
At 30 years old he decided to buy a wood runabout! He had a few smaller outboards and one rowboat prior but the Century was bought and stored at the Lindsey Park Yacht Club in Davenport, Iowa.
It was also my first introduction to the classic wood boating scene! I am forever grateful to my father for this introduction and if I have contributed even the slightest amount to the hobby in the past or will in the future it is because of my Dad.
Thanks Dad, the family all enjoyed your Resorter Easter Sunday. Even though you could not be in the boat we loved seeing you watch us from the living room. We will NEVER sell the Century, EVER! It is an Ales heirloom forever.
Rest in peace and enjoy the no maintenance boating up there!

Thats very touching Scott.
truly, very sorry for your loss.
I echo Ranger’s thought. I may have been in the same lock wityh him when the Sunnyland picture was taken. We all ahte to lose one of the good guys! Condolences.
My condolences Scott, as a fellow Iowan from the opposite ends of the state, I enjoy hearing about your memeories on the river in Davenport. Beautiful area to boat! Memories are wonderful to behold forever!
I will miss Jere more than words can say! He was one of my best boating buddies, motorcycle buddies, and just all-around good guy. Jere was ALWAYS up for a boating adventure—– I’m going through old emails between us and they’re always about the fun to come or the fun we had! Jere and I used to laugh about our plans: if they were boating related, contact me! If about motorcycles, contact my hubby! My deepest sympathy to the family. Hey Jer- CATCH YA LATER GATOR!! AND Scott- don’t worry if you break down in the Century, little Jitterbug to the rescure!!! 🙂 xo!
He really enjoyed running with the Sunnyland crew! We are very thankful he was able to share the moments with everyone. I remember last year at the show when the Resorter was taking on water! Thanks for the kind words. Anyone that has a story to share or wants to come by for an open house are welcome. Come to our home between 6pm & 9pm this Saturday at;
2461 East Crooked Lake Club Blvd. Eustis, Fl.
We would love to see and hear from you and if you have pictures we would enjoy seeing them!
That was a nice story, Scott. Choked me a little bit. It’s becaue of my pops that I have my Chris Craft.
I’m sorry for your loss.

we met him only once but it was on a fabulous day of boating with friends.
just like you and many others i wanted to keep my dad’s boat after losing him so i bought it from the family and have been having such wonderful times with it since then, it’s been a perfect way of keeping him close to me…
