ACBS See’s Nice Respectable Growth Of It’s Membership!
2009 Sandpoint show, things started shrinking. We just couldn’t tell.
If you get caught up in the gossip and drama behind the scenes of the ACBS, you may have heard that membership is up. Which is a fantastic sign and proof that the new acceptance of fiberglass, new website and new blood on the board of Directors is working. This is huge news for us all who have been questioning the perception that the “Hobby” is shrinking.
Looks like yjey are having fun! Know why? BECAUSE IT IS FUN!
Now, and this is just an observation, we can no longer judge the success the interest of the Classic Boat Hobby with Boat Show attendance, or other traditional ways. We would also say despite what we just said here, that Club membership is the measurement of the hobby. We still believe that in fact, as a hobby, it could still be shrinking, but as a culture, and lifestyle is where it’s growing. Classic boating is more than just owning a classic boat. Its about how you live with it, use it and the family and friends that share that with you. And that is feeling like its growing, and if that grows, membership to clubs and attendance at fun new events will also see growth. Our hats are off to the amazing folks at all the events and clubs for shifting, changing and trying new things. Its working! Now stop reading this dribble and get your boat ready to get out there. Its almost summer..ish. OK its supposed to be 45 degrees here this weekend. Maybe I will take up Milk Bottle Collecting….

Those dam bottles were only made for a certain amount of years, and they were made of glass, now plastic… OHHHH nooooooo maybe we are all Milk Bottle collectors. Maybe that’s how people see us. Maybe there is a website called GlasyMilker and they are now doing a story on obscure hobbies like classic boating, and so some idiots actually collect BOATS.. what a bunch of idiots..

Maybe its about the delivery of Milk, the concept that’s cool, not the way bottles are made of either glass or plastic. maybe there is a Milkman Culture. mmmmmmmm What the? I fell into a spell right there. i need a sniff of varnish. All will be OK.. Just a sniff! Right? Right? If you havnt joined the ACBS, or the Chris Craft Antique Boat Club yet, OR Renewed your membership. Do it today! Before your milk expires.

I have seen some mayor changes in both clubs in just the few short years I have been involved. These are exciting times and I am really looking forward to the new CCABC site coming soon.
And don’t forget the Century Boat Club, also doing well, they went up at least one this winter, when I joined !!! lol Seriously, tho, I find the Club has, like most, have done a lot of sole searching, trying to see how to better the Club nationwide, like with regional events. I look forward to being part of the Century Boat Club, and offer my input and time to help the board grow the Club and the Hobby.

We still have milk in glass bottles at the Pittsford Dairy, but they don’t deliver anymore.
CCAB Boat Buzz is an amazing wealth of information for anything and everything Chris Craft. Wish I had joined sooner. Even for a know it all like me, I learn something new every day about the care and maintenance of wooden boats.

One good thing about milk bottle collecting is it gives you something to do on days like today when it is SNOWING.
The Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club’s new website is under construction as we speak. It is our hope to be online with this by summer (some time in June). It’s going to be spectacular!
Al, I think it’d be great to add a “Featured Boat Of The Month” section on the Buzz. Would help owners of similar models find and gather info from each other.
I used to do beer bottle collecting, but my collection grew so fast I had to throw it out weekly
I went to visit my brother while he was stationed in Germany. The small town of Hugelsheim had “Peter the Beerman, who would make daily delivery of beer from the local brewery right to your front step. Milk delivery had recently been discontinued but, Peter had a very full route. Ah, civilization.
Woodystock Matt?
The $1400 ebay bottle is from the original site of the 1969 Woodstock music festival . Lots of people believe it was held in Woodstock NY. Not so.
You are correct. It was held at Yazgur Farms in Bethel NY. It is about an hour drive from Woodstock.
Just don’t let the government get involved. We have a local dairy that makes fine cheeses and butter and sells ( was selling) the milk skimmed off the top as “skimmed milk” ( makes sense so far) but the Feds say they must add nutrients to it to make it qualify to be sold in stores as skimmed milk. Locals say they knew what they were getting and it is better than the bluish water with additives sold in stores as skimmed milk but according to a federal court ruling his week the dairy must now throw it away.
Loma Dairy in Oklahoma makes wonderful whole unpasturized milk in bottles. They don’t deliver, but it’s really tasty.
Nice to see that row of woody cruisers! Restoring and maintaining a vintage wooden cruiser takes a special kind of dedication (and bank account) possessed by few. The restoration costs can be horrendous and the resale value is always a fraction of the expenditure. Those owners are the real “idiots” and the hobby needs all it can find. I used to be one and there were times when sitting at the helm drinking a cold beer and steering with my foot made me happier than just about anything I can think of. Don’t get me wrong…runabouts are great. Every yacht needs a dinghy!
