Is Gull Lake The New Lake Tahoe Event?

Kathy Muller and Miss Algonac. WOW, WOW, WOW.
What a week of fantastic photos and copy. Steve, Dane and Texx did an amazing job, Too amazing frankly. I can now see how far I have slipped into the dirge of daily posts about the Railway, Mr B and other things with in my field of pandemic vision. So? How do you follow those stories? Controversy of course.

We all know and love the huge Lake Tahoe show, the standards are insane high, judging etc. The Pebble Beach of Classic Boat Events. But has the Gull Lake event raised the bar even higher? Yes, we can have both.. But that’s not a fun debate? What is the premiere event? Gull Lake has it all! Amazing location at The Bar Harbor Supper Club, Insane rare perfectly done boats, the lake in the area are what classic boating is all about? It all just lives in a perfect harmony all coated in a wonderful varnish of passion.

Says it all
So let the debate rage!
There are many classic boating events with great boats and wonderful people all over the country. You just have to participate in the fun. The one week count down has begun for one of them!
🙏❤️
Been off line all week.
AWESOME coverage of the Gull Lake Event!!
Thanks to ALL involved!
Is the debate limited to the States? The Traditional Boat Festival was held last weekend at Henley-on-Thames, UK. Dunkirk Little Ships, amphibious, WWI warplanes and boats like Fixitor (I first saw on this blog) and Gelyce. It’s got to be a contender….
The Bi- Annual Muskoka Lakes Boat show in Port Carling on the 2nd Saturday in August has to rank right in there as well in terms of boats and location; as well the Toronto ACBS show in Gravenhurst is almost as good;
More pi please
More pictures of this beautiful boat.
Go to any lake even by yourself and it turns into a wooden boat show with people coming up to you with admiration and questions galor. Private small boat shows are all we have in western Nebraska and Wyoming, and one is going on anytime you go to the lake. ENJOY!!!
My vote goes to the Gull Lake Show – between the fabulous museums that John and Lee open up for dinners, the spectacular Bar Harbor setting for the show and the awesome list of boats that arrive for the show, it is 100% “Top Notch”. The Whitefish Chain Classic Boat Show gets a nod too, and that’s because I run it!!
There is room for large boat shows and small boat shows. Their are obvious reasons, too numerous to list. The Vision and Mission statements found in the ACBS Membership Directory provides some guidance. Pitting one venue against another is not discussed.
No need to debate, just support and love them all – even the ones with insanely low standards. 🙂
Thanks for the coverage. Summer is almost over and I haven’t been to a boat show in 2 years due to the pandemic. We don’t have enough water in most of the west coast lakes to safely launch our boats anyway. Not to mention all of the fires and smoke and general devastation out here. Tahoe came so close to being totally destroyed and it’s still in danger. Glad to see some people are out having fun enjoying their beautiful boats in beautiful settings and socializing the way they should be without virtual zoom crap. Bring on the shows. Any shows. Hope to be at one again someday.
Each show brings its own identity to the party!
Lake Tahoe – Excellent Professionally restored boats
Gull Lake – Ditto
Toronto & Manotick – Beautiful Canadian Craft
ABM – Premiere Auction every year.
Niagara Frontier – Great Race Boats every year
Chesapeake Bay – Beautiful Museum setting
etc. , etc. , etc.
I’m with the “just go out and enjoy it” crowd… Regardless of location, amenities , what makes the show is the gathering and stories told – no matter which boat is being admired. Tahoe and Gull Lake are “top notch”, but that is a subjective description… I’m looking forward to the ACBS International Show in Coeur d’Alene – many folks heading to Northern Idaho/Priest Lake in the next several days to enjoy a week of events on the water and their boats. I’m looking forward to catching up with some long-time boating friends!
That is not a fair question….but you knew that.
I don’t think anyone should be able to answer that question unless they’ve been to every show in the country. I was at Gull Lake for the Int’l and it was amazing. I was also just up at Hessel…and that was amazing. The quality was outstanding. Same for Clayton, Tahoe, Smith Mountain Lake etc…….each location is amazing in its own way.
Be amazed on September 11th in Grand Island, NY
