Carla, Florence and Smith Mountain Lake Update!
While the gang is all up in Michigan having fun, we thought it might be a good time to update everyone on the news of the week. Yes, there are other events and things happening around Woodyboaterville.
First off, Carla is doing far better and even took the time to see some pals in Traverse City. And wrote us all this wonderful note.
Here it is, Boat the Blue and I’m not in Port Huron! WHAT? In my home state, 4.5 hours Southeast of Traverse City and the first time I will miss the ACBS International Boat Show in more than 20 years.
As many of you know, a little over 7 weeks ago, I suffered a significant stroke. After 17 days in the hospital, ending with 8 days of intensive rehab, I was released to home care (my son) and 3+ hours of PT and OT on a daily basis. With all of your prayers and positive energy coming my way, I am progressing MUCH BETTER than any of my doctors predicted. Although my entire left side remains completely numb, I can walk semi-normal. It’s not necessarily pretty, but I am encouraged it will return to full capacity. I have started weekly acupuncture sessions and also researching other alternative options as I WILL overcome my limitations. THAT I can assure you!
I wish everyone a fabulous time this entire week in Port Huron. As always, I have no doubt that the Michigan Chapter has put together one incredible event for each and every one of you. Don’t forget to swing by the Hagerty booth and say hi to Ryan and Dan!
Second, Florence is headed our way, even though as of today looks like we will get some of the northern part of it.
But things are wonky here in Reedville. Even though the news is more of the Carolinia’s, ship happens and too much at risk. The Chesapeake Bay is notorious for fast changes. I drove home yesterday from a Hail Mary run to New Jersey and back to ride it out in case stuff happens and pull boats out and tuck them away. 10 hrs of driving. UGH… The Navy did it a couple days ago out of Norfolk, so our fleet should do the same. We will NOT be making the Port Huron show. And fortunately neither will Florence. We already have had a ton of rain and stuff is wonky here. Hopefully this publishes in time. The power and internet has been on and off for over 24 hrs.
SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE CANCELED THIS WEEKEND! The big Smith Mountain Lake show planned for this weekend is OFF! NOPE, NADA, STAY HOME, CANCELED. Now this gets a tad confusing, because its been rescheduled for October 13, 2018
The. Which begs the question, maybe just say Moved, or postponed, or rain checked.. But I was told its a two stage announcement. CANCELED and rescheduled. Maybe they should call it a LAST GASP SHOW
So there you have it. Kinda Sausage News like. But stuff you may want to know. I hope the folks headed to Port Huron are going to have a fantastic time. But also have turned up the prayer machine to those upstairs that listen for our friends in the Carolinia’s.
Great news that Carla is doing well. Good news that Reedville should be mostly spared as Florence takes a turn to the south. Bad news that you will not make Port Huron, but we will see you in A Bay next year or the colder snowier part of Michigan in 2020.
For the community members in the Carolinas, be careful and good luck. Our thoughts are with you.
Carla, you are in our thoughts in Port Huron. See you next year at one of our events.
We also wish Matt well and will miss you and Suzy.
We had a great day yesterday, and I think some live photos are on the way to WoodyBoaterville. Today we fire up the cruisers and head up to Lexington. Stay tuned!
We got the photos late last night. We will do an update later today. Or combine with tomorrow. Stay tuned. Thanks to the team up there with updates for all of us in Woodyboaterville
Quick FYI: The Point Pleasant, NJ – Barnegat Bay Chapter, show is still a go for this Saturday. Since Stinky is on the trailer why not bring her up out of harms way in NJ !!!
Great to hear Carla is recovering without major issues. Looks like sunny and low 80s for Port Huron. Leaving soon. Hang in there down south.
Good work Sophie😊Carla’s service dog.
It’s a little scary her in Summerville, SC and the reason I say that is because it is a beautiful day here today, just the way it was right before Hugo hit, got my fingers crossed.
Great news Carla! Glad you’re home and hope to see you again soon. Matt, we feel your frustration at having to remain stateside to batten down the hatches, been there! Hope everyone in the path of Florence stays safe!
Like everyone else who knows her, I’m glad to hear Carla is well on the road to recovery…She’s a tough lady and I know with her determination she’ll make it back 100%.
Our prayers go out to those in Florence way. Those of us who grew up in Miami and still live in Florida know hurricanes can be devastating.
Great video of Matt holding the flag in the street. Best wishes for everyone in the storm patch.
Everyone stay safe.

Love your Flag man, that’s the way to great a Hurricane. “Against the wind”
Port Huron looking like perfect weather, don’t miss this Special Event. Event is held in a large area with easy parking.
Be safe Matt to you and all. My sister is near Wilmington, NC. Not good for them. God Bless.
You Go Carla!
Everyone else keep safe.
