While looking through a 1939 Chris Craft Catalog I got through ebay the other day, I noticed this photo. And thought. Mmmm? I wonder if that strap on a yacht hat like that is usable in this way? Or at least it was intended to be used this way and found to be even dorkyer than the hat its self? It seems that it’s like wearing life jackets. Yes its safe, yes your life is at stake, but do you look cool? I guess the hat thing is not a comparison, since one if life or death and the other is your hat flying off. But you get my drift here.. I hope.

Why would the hat be at risk of blowing off in an enclosed cabin? Seems like there must be more to this story.

The hat strap looks waaaaaaaaay cooler than the “chin strap”….especially on a lady!
I wonder if it would work to put a Captains Hat on backwards like we do with baseball caps?

Pretty sure the cap strap has its origins in the military. almost all military peak caps have them and most other head dress has an option for them… with the exception of a few like the beret, glengarry or wedge cap. The feature was a carry over from other head dress like shako caps and busby. Over time they became less functional and more decorative. They also change style to denote rank. Traditional merchant caps, fiddler caps, fisherman’s or Breton caps did not originally include a strap but, may have been added for style (possibly in the form of a braided chord secured by buttons).
How would you get that hat over your man bun. Maybe pull that strap down under it. Ya gotta consider the millennial factor.
Yup thats what it is for, in the USCG or dress hat is called the combination hat and yes it has the strap and yes it is made to still work that way.
Finally something important, she is obviously a pontoon boat owner
