The Plaid Rocket Is Ready For Lake Dora. Are You?

Rare prototype plaid interior

If you are restoring your boat you know how amazing this is. The speed and perfection of this restoration is crazy fast. And here are the results, just in time for Lake Dora. The drama of will the boat be done in time this year isn’t there. Alan and the team at Katz’s Marina has done an amazing job. Will you be at Lake Dora to see it? She will be on Land Display at the Katzs Marina tent. Thanks to bob Kays for the great photos!

Green bilge area with that post war blue Van Ness engine

Amazing Allen Johnson lettering, did we ever really have an answer as to what those metal caps are there for?

Cool Holiday in the background highlites the yellow wheel

Plaid, with yellow piping matches the yellow bottom and wheel. There is a small amount of green in the plaid as well.

And of course that flawless Katzs finish

It goes together.

White seams pick up the white in the plaid

Yellow there!

Are you on your way yet? Its never to early to head down to Florida!

I am the owner of the next serial number D17-005. I am in Florida right now and about an hour away-
How early will Plaidtastic be showing up for the show? I am itching to see it in the flesh (wood)!! I need a sneak peak I am gone end of this week.

I’ll risk making an exact copy of the interior ! It will definitely be a conversation starter at the docks… I can always make slip on seat covers if it becomes too much an eye focus scrambler!

… I hope the ‘proud new owner’ is given a hermetically sealed roll of that upholstery material so when this boat is again re-restored in 2168 that person will not have to go through what had to be done here the first time around!

And by the way, I like it!!!!

Cant wait to see this boat as Im sure is it outstanding. My wife and I are so ready to get back to Mt Dora, Hopefully sunshine shorts and t shirts along with some great wood boats. We woke up to 2 or 3 inches of wet snow this morning in Southern Kentucky we did not need.

There’s another WoodyBoater in KY! I think that makes three of us that occasionally post. Ronald, where are you in Kentucky? I’m in Owensboro, but do not boat the Ohio River, so always looking for a good place to get the boat wet!

Taking the advice of my dearly departed Mother it took me all day to come up with something nice to say. Damn that boat has really nice flagpoles and step pads😄

I’m thinking of getting some of that fabric for seat cushions for my latest Whirlwind resto……..people would be so focused on the plaid they would miss my subpar (sh—y) varnish work.

    see ya’ll next week!

I probably missed this, but does it have a plaid interior because it was shipped that way?

Yes, we did a story on these, the fist round of them had a plaid interior, and for some reason it was changed quickly. This is a a very low number boat and would have come with plaid, this plaid. Which is NOS material.

Matt, I know you keep a watch on new comments so hopefully I’m not too late on this one…any tips on how to keep white step plates clean? They just seem to attract dirt that stays in the recess?

Cameron, thats a great question. I dont have white ones so have not had to deal with that. i will do a story on it.
