As you may recall a bit back we scored some rare photos off eBay and thanks to the good folks at Ramsey Bros they found this cool article dated May 1930 in Power Boating magazine. Its cool to see the final article along with the photo. Ironically, from the time we saw the photo until this time, about replicates the time it would have taken to do a story on the photo. With magazine printing, writing, type setting, sometimes a story could take up to 90 days to report.

Also of note is in an Obit, it mentions that Albert Frost was the 2nd oldest Chris Craft dealer in the Country. Johnson Outboards and Boston Whaler! mmm, so now you know more of the story. All this from an ebay photo!Here is a quote from the Portland Press Harold. I think this is a sons Obit, cause he was 72 in 2008. And Albert Sr was born in 1889

Albert served on many marine counsels with Chris Craft, Johnson Motor and Boston Whaler. He was recognized for his achievements with numerous awards. His relentless integrity and dedication in providing outstanding customer service for his customers was his standard in the business. His employees and colleagues were honored to be a part of his life.
The Frost boat business was the oldest Johnson Outboard Motor and Boston Whaler boat dealer in the United States and was the second oldest Chris Craft boat dealer in the U.S.”
Okay now it gets more fun, as we look through the issue thanks to the Ramsey bros and there scanner. Woohoo, magazine scans!

I think they mean, laugh off the heat? A large ship? Dont they know no read reads body copy? I will add though that the type is set beautifully with now widows and has been written to fit. Not an easy task and this ad took great craftesmanship to make.

Well, we enjoyed The Ramsey Bros Scanner Day. Should this be a regular feature? Thanks to the Ramsey Bros for making it happen.
My gosh! Didn’t the advertisers have a way with words back then. Just so much more refined than the language spewed out in adds today. I love the Hacker add script. “Commencing at $3150 To guarantee enduring quality.” And how bout “price cutting-sins against quality.” What a great way to say we’re expensive, but you get what you pay for. Great Stuff!

I tried to get a brick from the plant to keep with Yorktown, but no such luck.
If my memory serves me correctly, from what I have read the Smith’s bought the Cadillac property in anticipation of production ramp up for WWII military boats.
Looks like Yorktown might have spent some time in that showroom as a display boat on her copper bronze cradle. That is pretty cool.

Great historical report, Matt. Of particular interest were the shorter 20′ and 17′ models introduced in 1930 by chris craft, no doubt in response to the depression. The 17′ model was the smallest cc yet made. it was in a split cockpit arrangement (only a handful left now). In 1937 they introduced the 17′ deluxe runabout, and this length (in the double cockpit forward format) became the bread and butter model for cc for several decades.

We no longer have the calendar feed. Sorry , it died with the ACBS. But the folks at that lake are fantastic. See attached image for details. I also know there is a show in Port Huron this year. Just cant recall when that is? Anyone know?

Meteors are very rare and neat boats with unique hardware. I did not know they were built in Ohio. There is still a really nice one around that comes to All Classics Festival in Huron, OH from time to time.
