You Officially Now Have An Excuse To Race Down To Lake Dora On Friday! Yes, THIS Friday!
For those of you having a countdown, OK, all of us are having a countdown, it’s officially 12 days til the big show.. BUT WAIT, NO WAIT…. DON’T WAIT. Cause if you feel the need for varnished speed, the Classic Raceboat Association has its huge event the week before. That’s right. In 5 days you can be sniff’n fresh varnish and racing fuel. This is a huge annual event that is full of classic coolness and excitement. This is NOT a static show by the way, these guys race, and you see it all. It’s also a great excuse to head down early, hotels rooms are available in the area, and the weather is nice and Sunny..land…
It’s easy, show up Friday, Stay the weekend watching folks race, then Monday do the St johns River cruise, maybe Tuesday, and wed. Then on Thursday the big party at The Antique Boat Center, then the show on Friday, Sat and Sunday. Heck you may get more boating in in two weeks than you do all summer! If you want more info on the CRA Click HERE. And if you are to lazy to click on a link, then just watch this from 2009!
And happy header day! Just hit refresh for a old header from days gone by!
The CRA race weekend is always a blast! Nice people, fast boats, great fun!!!
We get into Orlando Saturday night may just swing over on Sunday to see if there is any action still going on.
Between the races, St. Johns river cruises (South and North) you could easily turn it into a two + week boating vacation. If you are bringing a boat from the north it could turn into a whole month with travel time.
Just pulled the boat out of storage this morning with the old faithful Ford 8N tractor. For 65 years old it is still miles ahead of any new pick-up when it comes to maneuvering boats around in tight quarters,,,and through snow drifts in our case! Next stop is Jacksonville for the St Johns River Cruise. Hope you guys don’t have any snow there!
I miss my Massey Ferguson TO-35, close cousin to your 8N. Ferguson vs Ford (the people, not the tractors) is a great story, even if you aren’t into vintage tractors.
Rich, if you want REAL maneuverability, put the hitch on the front of the tractor.
Me too. Mine is a Ferguson TO 20, with the hitch on the front.
Great idea John and it saves your back and neck when backing into the garage. A tractor’s short wheelbase makes it more difficult to back straight in smoothly but is much more maneuverable than a car or truck.
Not to be a name dropper but this would be my holy grail of tractors, 1955 Lamborghini.
Wow Rich I just sold my old 2N 1947 hell of tractor. Those Ferguson’s were great to. They really made things to last in them old days. And John is right front ball mount is great for tight quarters.
Thanks Matt for the Higgins story yesterday. And I hope everyone has a safe journey to Dora. Gonna have to pass this year but will see ya’ll next year. How’s that live Web feed going on the party Matt. I suspect if ya’ll get it going it should be quite good to start off and as the festivities ware on the quality may demensih as the adult beverage flows.
I so need a vintage tractor. Or maybe a Bobcat T series with a ball on the bucket.
Wow! I never figured a picture of a tractor would get so much attention on a wood boat site! I’m feeling guilty and ashamed that I have not been looking after the little Ford and using it as, well,,, a tractor. It’s been 25 years since I gave it it’s last make over. After today’s talk I think I’ll bring it in the shop between boats and freshen it up again. You don’t realize how useful they are until they run out of gas and have to move a boat by hand!
Loved my tractor around the barn! After a while though, it needed as much TLC as the boat..
I have a 2009 Kubota Diesel – 29hp 4wd for the steep terrain and snow duty it sees. The hydraulic3 point makes moving boats a snap. Bucket on the front makes a ball a bit problematic but had thought of it. I did covet an 8n but they can’t handle the grades we have at and around the lake place.
One more before we go to bed!
The old Ford tractors do make a great boat pulling rig.
