Breaking News! Kelly Bane,”Mr. Harbormaster” Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance Passes Away.
This sad news in from fellow Woody Boaters Steve Lapkin and Tom Grossman
Dear Friends:
It is my very sad obligation to inform you that our good friend, Kelly Bane passed away today after suffering a massive stroke yesterday, March 10th , at home in Meadow Vista.
Jane and Kelly had just returned from a 10 day vacation in Maui on Thursday past and Jane had gone to Modesto Friday to pick up their dog who was being cared for by friends while they were gone. Jane had talked to Kelly both on Friday and Saturday evenings and everything appeared to be fine. She was coming home on Sunday and arrived at the house around 2:00 pm to find Kelly unresponsive in bed.
She immediately called 911 and the medical response team arrived shortly thereafter and proceeded to move Kelly to the hospital in Auburn, CA where he was examined and an MRI was performed. The MRI was conclusive in that it had shown that he had suffered a massive stroke with the resultant major brain damage. Kelly was thereafter transferred to Kaiser Hospital in Roseville, and put on life-support. He had previously requested to not be kept on life-support and Jane honored his request after family members and several close friends arrived at the hospital today to pay their respects and comfort Jane.
Jane has approved of my sending this email along to each of you, and I would ask you to please keep Jane and Kelly in your prayers during this difficult time. I am sure there will be a memorial service of some kind in the near future, but obviously as of this date, nothing has been decided.
I will keep you all informed as I get more information. Kelly passed away exactly one month after David Wright passed under similar circumstances. Both of these friends leave tremendous voids in the lives of all of us who have known both men for so many years of valued friendship.
It is so difficult for me to imagine never seeing or spending quality time with either of these great pals again.
Sincere in my sorrow and pain, may God lift Kelly’s soul to that Better Place!
Love to you all, and “Thank you for being my friend Kelly”
Tom Grossman
Thank you for being my friend, Kelly
Another sad loss for the hobby and the Northern Cal ACBS chapter. It was always great to see Kelly and Jane at the Tahoe show. Jane you and your family are in our prayers.
Truely one of the sweetest men I have ever been blessed to know. The show will never be the same without his huge smile and wonderful red, white & blue hat. He always gave of his heart and his time – at Christmas he rang the Salvation Army bell at a store here in Auburn and it was always such a joy to get to spend a little time with him. He stood there for hours with a big smile and his open heart. He embodied the spirit of the season all year long.
I was blessed to be Kelly’s niece…he was a wonderful uncle and all of my siblings echo my sentiments….he was bigger than life and his loss is just as big.
Rest in peace Kelly. The Bush family will always be thankful for your friendship.
Kelly was one man Nikki and I would look forward to seeing at most boating events, always fun, always a smile, always inquisitive of how things were going for us, never a bad word to say about anyone, we loved Kelly. Boating events will never be the same without our icon friend Kelly,
Rest in peace Kelly Bain
Tony Fejer and I will keep Kelly’s memory in our hearts-We will miss that American flag hat running around the marina and seeing him cruise through town in his bright orange “THING”. What a great guy! Thanks for being our friend Kelly- Lori Speers-Hazlett & Tony Fejer
