HAGERTY ANNOUNCES ITS 2011 MARINE HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (September 2011) – Hagerty Insurance, the worldwide leader in wooden boat and classic car insurance, announces the 2011 inductees into the Hagerty Marine Hall of Fame. Founded in 2009, the Hall of Fame pays homage to individuals or organizations that have significantly contributed to the preservation and awareness of the hobby. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include Chris-Craft icon Chris Smith, Century Boat pioneer Chuck Miklos and California Classic Boats founder Al Schinnerer.
“This year’s inductees have had a huge impact on the classic boat lifestyle that represents the breadth of the hobby,” said Hagerty Classic Marine Insurance founder Louise Hagerty. “Chris Smith crafted these beautiful boats, Chuck Miklos helped bring a community of similar-minded enthusiasts together and Al Schinnerer fulfilled a need that benefited all wooden boat owners.”

Congrats again to the Miklos Family, Chris Smith and Al Schinnerer It’s great to know that the Miklos boys have continued the tradition of helping the community and are a living encyclopedia of Century information. Chris Smith is living history and any time I see him, he is laughing and bringing joy to the crowd.. Al.. What can we say.. Al is the man, he is always there with fun facts and willing to share.. man.. oh man what a great group … Can’t say it enough..
Well deserved!
Hey Matt,
Thanks for posting!! It was a big challenge to try to do this at the ACBS Banquet. Time constraints and thanking about 500 people did not allow the inductees to address the audience as they wished to do..The Miklos family and Al came from opposite ends of the country, specifically to accept the award of induction. I hope those in attendance truly realize what these individuals have contributed to our lifestyle….they are Mahogany Gods!!!!!!
oops, one of those was spell checked…
Brilliant! Well done you three sirs and well done Hagerty.
The masthead looks very cool today Matt. I wanna be right there in that picture.
Classic, classic masthead, Matt. You just feel the reverence for the boats.
Congratulations to this year’s inductees and to their proud families. All three are very deserving of this prestigious honor.
Thanks Hagerty for creating this means of honoring those that have dedicated their lives to Classic Boating.
Thanks this is a great honor for our Family.
Including Clayton show I have traveled 3700 miles to shows, Clayton, NY 8-6, CBC Manistee, MI 9-10, Smith Mt Lake, VA, 9-17, and Lake Geneva, WI 9-24… Originally had not planned Lake Geneva but when Hagerty contacted us there was no question about another show…
I think this ends the 2011 Show calendar for me… Along with a few local shows within 100 miles. and driving to Keels n Wheels, Seabrook, TX. The total miles driving just to boat shows this year is around 6,900 mi.
Three very deserving recipients Each in his own was has done much to extend the legacy of the wooden boating hobby. Thanks to Hagerty for providing this avenue for recognizing these individuals who have contributed to the antique and classic boating hobby.
Is it possible to get a copy of the little clip of the woody boater video clip at the top of this page?
Thanks, Brian Ermeling
