The 2026 NNK Cardboard Regatta – A Splash Hit

Boat Shows, Community/Web

Thats Cardboard!

Yesterday was the second annual NNK Cardboard Regatta here in Reedville, right smack dab next to the Railway, and what a show it was. A huge crowd, and zero disappointment’s. Great family entertainment and really what summer is all about. But there is a method to this fun madness. Teaching kids, and older kids, and really older kids to build boats. Our area is rich in that tradition and needless to say, everyone gets into it. Like seriously fun stuff. There are of course different categories. But seeing how far it can all be taken is part of it all.

You can find out more HERE

The NNK Wood Boat Building School is about 2 years old and is a huge positive thing here. And based on the turn out, will be a serious thing here for the long haul. This of course is driven by volunteers and focuses the local talent and offers a path to learning and growing. Somehow I think WoodyBoater will have an entry next year.

Kids building the boats in the morning, while some made them at home as a family project, there are rules regarding use of stuff.

He wasn’t messing around. It was a beatiful boat

Drones! Not made of cardboard BTW

The finished boats started lining up. A cardboard tube used as a keel!

The wood row boats are all built at the school by the kids and a team leader.

Built by the Fulcher family. Fulcher Finishes is one of the top Hot Rod custom shops in the Mid Atlantic. And a fellow WoodyBoater

The crowd was huge. Like cars parked everywhere.

Things kinda started as planned

Paddle!

Oh boy – Smiles and great applause from the crowd

Stroke, no this way, not that way

Some of the stuff made at the location worked VERY well

One must ask… What happened to Unsinkable 1? These are built by the kids

This one had some sort of sealer on it. It held up and the kids knew how to paddle for sure

Sea Rescue was on standby, we have an amazing group here that will come get you. All volunteer and free. Our area of the bay is underserved by the coast guard and police, so this is a wonderful organization.

The big guns are ready

Dang!

Round the marker

And out, there is more raceing at the end! So saveing the boat is part of it

Misty lane. AMAZING!

Some serious cardboard action!

This thing was insane fast. Left a wake.

This all mixed in with the Big Huron show is a wonderful reminder of the fun and joy boats can be. On and off the water.

Looks like fun! Don’t remember what event this was from, as I found it on the web several years ago, but still my favorite cardboard boat.

That is just too cool. That is one way of getting young people into boating.

Cardboard Boat races are our biggest day of the year at Moonlite Bay. 40 boats! Over $50k raised for spinal injury research.
