A huge thanks to Holly, Steve Lapkin and the LaDonnes for sending us in photos and reports from the big Huron show. The clock is out of California from years ago, and an absolute time capsule. AHHHHHHHHH, beyond my budget.. Wait, what budget. Beyond my marriage vows.

Many boaters volunteered their vessels and the operation of getting people onto boats and out there while other boats came in to drop off was extremely efficient.
Of no surprise John Allens Lotus won best in show.

We will get more on Lotus, I know it’s one of the last race boats of an era, and VERY worthy of the best of show, anyplace. It’s a true treasure to have boats seen and heard of this type. John Allen puts in that extra effort to come to the shows and bring stuff. Thats time, and money to share with all of us. Keeping and sharing our history of speed boats is generosity for generations. How does one Judge a Lambchop? I got this side note, that the judges were bribed with…. Lambchops in the engine compartment. No, seriously. There was an entire smorgasbord in there. No engine, just a feast.
Jim Staib brought lots of Duplex stuff. Like serious Duplex stuff.

I did talk with Jim Staib last night, and he is doing much much better. Lots of laughter and as he said, it was a show of big boats, very nice large boats. The clock sold, but the Deplex stuff, which has some very rare stuff in that collection didnt, and there is a Higgin’s Neon sign that also didnt sell. And if I bought it, I would ruin it with my drool. Here it is. For sale $5,900, Its large, thick, and okay, wait. Hey sex sells. Right. Anyway, if you want it, or need it, it’s available. If you are very interested and can’t get ahold of Jim, let me know and I will hook you up.

Great show! The Michigan Chapter outdid themselves with the preparation and execution-I’m sure there were glitches (as there always are), but it was seamless to the participants. Kudos to the father and son team of Rick and Rick-their tireless efforts as dockmasters put everyone where they were supposed to be. We stayed at an Air B&B boat at the Marina, which allowed us to meet and talk with folks we never would have met otherwise. Getting to talk to people like the inimitable Craig Lamm and his collection of beautiful “Shepsl” cruisers was a treat plus spending time and riding on “Sinbad” with Gerry Ward and his crew Jeff and Tom made great memories. So many spectacular boats that it’s hard to pinpoint one although the John Allen boats were frosting on the cake. Best part-seeing old friends and making new ones-that’s what it’s really all about! Nice to see Jim Staib up and about!
The week sure went by fast!! Back to reality and thinking about pulling and winterizing the boat in the next couple of weeks.
This was a lot of personal stuff never offered for sale before. The Higgins sign came from Indiana. Travels flat on the back seat pretty well for close to 1200 miles. It’s in Three Lakes, wi 54562. Pickup only.
While the rain on Saturday certainly put a damper on the festivities it was still a great show that the organizers should be very proud of. I wish I had a video of John Allen gunning “Sister Syn” in front of the afterglow party – amazing! Hopefully someone has this and posts it.

Only Saturday was rainy. Friday was the first show day with great weather.
It was great to see Jim and my first mate bought a new burgee for Water Lily, as she said the current weathered one had to be replaced.
Our Boat the Blue gang want to thank all the great boaters that came to see us, John Allen and Doug Morin who brought the focal point of the show boats to display, Steve, Holly and LaDonnes for the amazing images they shared for the week and ACBS for asking us to host this great event.
Unfortunately it’s now time for the Michigan gang to start winterizing boats and get them ready for next year’s boating adventures!

Another day of pure floating art. Not our Art, but I hope he was there. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed all the pictures in the last week. Thanks to all who are responsible. I am glad Jim is doing well and attending shows.
